As a Managing Director and Senior Partner with HVS Dallas, Russ Rivard’s history with hotels traces back to the six years he spent working at a Ramada hotel in Evansville, Indiana. Starting in high school and proceeding through his college years, Russ went from a position in facility maintenance to busboy and then waiter at the hotel’s restaurant. He later became a bellman, a front desk clerk, and finally Assistant Manager of the hotel’s rooms division. From this hardworking, loyal advance through the ranks of hotel operations, Russ’ career has coursed through hotel markets across the country and the world. Russ has overseen or conducted appraisals for more than 3,000 hotels and resorts, from limited-service and extended-stay hotel portfolios to proposed U.S. Army lodging developments in Puerto Rico, Germany, Italy, Korea, and Japan. Russ coordinates hotel appraisals that leverage the vast resources and expertise of his team of hotel experts to bring you the most authoritative, dependable perspective on your hotel’s value and potential.
Russ’ clients include independent and international banks, hotels, investors, and hospitality companies. Russ is a Designated Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) and has logged hundreds of hours of coursework and takes annual USPAP courses to stay current with developments in property appraisal theory and practice. Russ earned a BA from Purdue University and an MS in Operational Management from the University of Arkansas. He is a certified general appraiser in states throughout the West, Midwest, and Northeast United States.
An inveterate family man, Russ has seen his children through youth and college sports, including gymnastics, high school volleyball, and college-level soccer and intramurals. Russ personally enjoys racquetball, running, and listening to classic rock and roll. During the fall, backyard cookouts give him an opportunity to watch Dallas Cowboys games with family and friends, and golfing brings his extended family, who are spread across the U.S., together once or twice a year.
