COVID-19 and the Chinese Hotel Sector

HTL Announces Sale of Australia Hotel Properties Worth AUD35 Million

Australia-based real estate company, HTL Property, has announced the sale of two Australia hotel properties, namely the 44-key Acacia Ridge Hotel in Brisbane and the 18-key Illinois Five Dock Hotel in Sydney. The transaction of both properties summed up to approximately AUD35 million. Situated on a 18,000-square-metre plot of land on the Beaudesert Road in the industrial precinct of Acacia Ridge, Acacia Ridge Hotel, has been acquired by Australia-based ASX-listed Hotel Property Investment Limited from Australia-based Balmoral Hospitality Group. The property features 45 electronic gaming machines, a drive-through bottle shop, multiple bars and conference facilities, as well as a carpark with 230 parking spaces. On the other hand, former Wallaby Bill Young has acquired the Illinois Five Dock Hotel in Sydney for approximately AUD15 million in January this year. The property was previously owned by Bruce Hardin and family since 2005. The pub is situated on the corner of bustling Parramatta Road and Arlington Street at Five Dock, on land space spanning 1,733 square metres, which includes an adjacent house. The property features a public bar, bistro, gaming lounge, and first floor accommodation.

S Hotels & Resorts Pushes Forward with Business Expansion

Despite the recent challenging landscape, Thailand-based BKK-listed S Hotels & Resorts Public Company Limited (“SHR”), a subsidiary of Thailand-based Singha Estate Public Company Limited, continues to push forward with new investments and grow its hotel business according to its 2020 expansion strategies as it aims to double its hospitality portfolio to 80 hotels with over 8,000 rooms by 2025. In order to induce the MICE demand, SHR proceeded on its plan to build a multi-purpose meeting hall with a capacity of 350 delegates in the 255-key Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort. It also entered a joint venture partnership with Eco World Developer Private Limited (“EWD”), a big conglomerate from Myanmar, to develop high-end lifestyle resort comprising of 80 water villas located on Island 3, a part of the CROSSROADS Maldives project. The construction is expected to begin this year and will be completed in 2022.
