According to Changi Airport Group (CAG), Singapore Changi Airport recorded a total of 62.2 million passengers in 2017, indicating a 6 per cent Year-on-Year (YoY) growth over 2016. Aircraft movements increased by 3.5 per cent to 373,200 landings and take-offs, and air cargo volumes increased by an estimated 8 per cent to 2.13 million tonnes. Growth was observed for passenger traffic across all regions, with India and China recording the most significant YoY increase with 16 per cent and 12 per cent respectively. Of the total 62.2 million passengers, 70 per cent of passengers were from the South-East Asia and North-East Asia region. Looking forward, Changi Airport is already carrying out expansion plans to cope with the anticipated increase in demand for air travel in the Asia-Pacific region. Terminal 1 is currently upgrading alongside the development of Jewel Changi Airport, expected to open in 2019, increasing the Airport’s capacity to 85 million passengers a year. Terminal 5, set to be completed in 2030, will further increase capacity by another 70 million passengers annually.
