American private equity firm Bain Capital and London-based real estate investor Omnam Group have acquired the 285-room Hotel Britannia Excelsior on Lake Como from Ross Stacey Whieldon and his wife Doriana Luchina for an undisclosed price. The 19th century hotel is to be redeveloped into a five-star luxury resort. The repositioned hotel will comprise over 2,000 sqm of food and beverage facilities with Lake-view bars and restaurants, the largest floating pool on the Lake at 1,400 sqm, a unique 2,300 sqm Lido and 4,000 sqm buildable area that will be converted into a spa, conference centre and parking areas. Bain now own 35 hotels in Italy and 115 hotels across Europe, while trophy-hotel focused Omnam’s Italian investments have included the W Rome, Four Seasons Puglia and Baccarat Florence.

London-based REIT Landsec has acquired a 75% stake in the digital tech hub Media City outside Manchester, from financial service provider Legal & General and developer Peel L&P, for £426 million. The acquisition includes the 112-room Premier Inn within the “Tomorrow building” complex, fully buying out Legal & General, with Peel L&P retaining a 25% stake. The project’s first phase was completed nearly 10 years ago, with the second phase of the development already partially completed. The realization of the remaining project aims to deliver an additional 1.6 million square feet of mixed-use real estate.

Vienna-based real estate investment firm LLB Immo KAG has acquired the 131-room Meininger Hotel Vienna Downtown Franz from Austrian investment firm CA Immo for an undisclosed price. CA Immo developed the property, which opened in 2011, and now intends to further sharpen its focus on Grade-A office properties. The Meininger property is located in Vienna’s 2nd district, close to the city centre between the extensive parks of the Augarten and the Danube Canal.

Oslo-based engineering company Aker Solutions has re-acquired the 301-room Quality Hotel Expo in Fornebu, 10 kms from the centre of Oslo, from DNB Scandanavian Property Fund. Aker sold the hotel back in 2014 after developing the property two years before. The conference hotel includes 12 conference rooms, with a capacity of over 1,000 delegates.

French fund manager Sogenial Immobilier has acquired the 32-room Chalet Alpen Valley in Combloux, France for an undisclosed price. The acquisition was made on behalf of its SLP Premium Hotel Investments fund, which invests in luxury hotels. The property features a cinema, a spa, a restaurant and bar, as well as breathtaking views of Mont-Blanc.
