Capella Hotel Group to Debut in Bangkok, in 2018

Singapore-based Capella Hotel Group has reached an agreement with Thai real estate developer, Country Group Development Public Company Limited (PCL) to open the Capella Bangkok. This landmark hotel will be part of the prestigious new development, Chao Phraya Estate, that sits on the east bank of the rejuvenated Chao Phraya River waterfront promenade. Slated to open in the last quarter of 2018, Capella Bangkok will offer 101 suites and villas with panoramic views of the river. Other facilities will include a signature restaurant with the cuisine concept and style of Michelin-starred Mauro Colagreco; a specialty bar; a dessert bar; Auriga branded wellness retreat; the Capella Library; and a grand ballroom with unobstructed river view. Inspired by the cultural significance of the River of Kings and the ancient Thai culture, Capella Bangkok will join Capella’s existing portfolio of iconic hotels in key Asian destinations, which includes properties in Singapore, Shanghai, Düsseldorf and Saint Lucia. 

Archipelago International Signs 700-key Quest Hotel in Port Dickson, Malaysia

Indonesia’s largest hotel group, Archipelago International, has announced the signing of a management contract for a 700-key Quest Hotel in Port Dickson, Malaysia. An estimated 60 minutes’ drive from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur, the new build will be part of an integrated project that also includes the city’s largest convention center and a 30,000-square-meter water park. Expected to open by mid-2019, the development in Port Dickson represents a part of Malaysia’s bigger master plan for the Malaysia Vision Valley (MVV). MVV will cover a total of 153,000 hectares in Negri Sembilan and will be developed in phases till 2045. Once completed, the master plan aims to attract more than RM290 billion in investments for the region, and contribute to the social and economic growth of the region.

First Dual Hyatt-Branded Hotels Open in Shanghai

Hyatt Hotels recently announced the opening of two properties, namely Hyatt Place Shanghai Hongqiao CBD and Hyatt House Shanghai Hongqiao CBD, at the heart of Hongqiao CBD in Shanghai, China. Situated close to the Hongqiao Transportation Hub, the National Exhibition and Convention Center, and major shopping malls, the two hotels also provide easy access to the city’s major tourist attractions, such as the Bund, Nanjing Road, Xintiandi, Jing’an Temple and People’s Square. The 252-room Hyatt Place Shanghai Hongqiao CBD features state-of-the-art meeting facilities, multiple food and beverage outlets, a gym, an indoor swimming pool and other supporting facilities. Hyatt House Shanghai Hongqiao CBD offers 126 residential-style guestrooms, each featuring a fully equipped kitchen, a living area and a separate bedroom. In addition, the hotel provides a flexible function space, a 24-hour workout room, a game entertainment room and a laundry room, as well as free computers and Wi-Fi.

Carlson Rezidor Opens the Radisson Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group announced the opening of its first hotel in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir with the Radisson Srinagar. The hotel, situated approximately 12 kilometres northeast of Srinagar International Airport, features 79 rooms and 9 suites. On the food & beverage front, the hotel features four restaurants and 2,490 square feet of meeting and event space. Other facilities at the Radisson Srinagar include a spa and an outdoor swimming pool.

Future Renovation Expansion Plans for Airports Managed by Thailand’s Department of Airports

Thailand’s Department of Airports (DOA) has announced plans to invest 13 billion baht on new luggage-screening and automated check-in systems at Krabi, Udon Thani and Surat Thani airports. These three airports will be used as models for future renovation and expansion plans for other airports managed by the DOA. The first phase of the project will involve installation of new conveyor-belt systems and explosive detection systems (EDS), to be introduced by 2019 at a cost of 8.8 billion baht. The second phase, expected to cost 4.2 million baht, will be focused on switching to common-use check-in systems that will allow all kiosks to accept passengers from any airline. The DOA currently oversees 28 airports nationwide, with the 29th in Betong, Yala province set to open by 2020.
