Shangri-La and Taj Hotels Partner on Loyalty Programs

Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts and Mumbai-based Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces announced a strategic alliance on loyalty programs, last week. The new loyalty program – Warmer Welcomes, will integrate Shangri-La’s Golden Circle and Taj’s InnerCircle, and will be officially launched in March 2017 with a joint website. The program will extend to all brands of both the group and will allow five million Golden Circles members and one million Taj InnerCircle members to earn and redeem points for awards and stays at 195 hotels in 131 different cities across the world. In terms of point conversions, 100 Golden Circle points will equate to 67 InnerCircle points while 100 InnerCircle points will equate to 38 Golden Circle points. These conversions are, however, subject to change and will be based on the value of their respective currencies. In Phase II of this alliance, for which a date has not been announced, the two companies may even explore cross-selling opportunities.

Tribute Portfolio Arrives in Bali

Marriott International recently announced the opening of Sthala, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel in Ubud, Bali. The opening marks the debut of the Tribute Portfolio in Bali, as well as the brand’s first new build property to open since its launch. Owned by PT. Anugrah Anadya Nirmana, the hotel is situated on a hilltop set amidst the tropical landscape of Lodtunduh, Ubud. The upscale resort features 143 room and suites, an all-day dining restaurant, a rooftop bar and lounge, and a pool bar and lounge. Additional facilities include a fitness centre and spa, a yoga deck, and nearly 400 square meters of function space, ideal for intimate weddings and business meetings. Sthala is Indonesia's second hotel under the Tribute Portfolio. Jakarta’s The Hermitage, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, joined the collection last December. 

Five New Hotels Signed for Mantra Group

Australia’s leading hotel operator, Mantra Group, announced five new signings across Australia and New Zealand. These new signings will add more than 900 additional rooms to Mantra’s current global portfolio, comprising over 20,000 rooms in 126 properties The four properties signed in Australia are – Peppers Southbank in Melbourne; Mantra 900 Hay Street in Perth; Mantra Club Crocodile, Airlie Beach in Queensland; and Mantra Observatory, Port Macquarie in New South Wales, while the fifth property is the Peppers Queenstown Resort in New Zealand. Mantra became Australia’s fastest growing hotel group in 2016, having increased its portfolio by 11 new properties, which added more than 3,000 rooms to its inventory. With seven acquisition announcements in the first five months of FY2017, the group expects to exceed last year’s growth.

Hotel Indigo to Open in 2020, in Brisbane

InterContinental Hotels group (IHG) and Pointcorp have signed a management agreement for a new build Hotel Indigo, to be located in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane’s cultural and creative hub. The 140-key hotel is the first Indigo hotel signing for Australia and New Zealand, and is expected to open in 2020. The boutique lifestyle hotel will feature locally inspired design, artwork and menus to reflect the culture, history and heritage of Fortitude Valley. Furthermore, its location on Brunswick Street will accessibility to the many art galleries, laneway restaurants, boutique stores, bars, nightclubs and live music venues, as well as the many varied festivals and events which take place in the neighbourhood throughout the year. Hotel Indigo Brisbane Fortitude Valley will be part of a mixed-use development, which will include residences, commercial offices and retail space. As the first development of its kind in the area, it is expected to create a new epicenter for the Valley.

HICSA 2017: Bringing Together the Regional Owner Powerhouses

Hosted by HVS, the 13th edition of Hotel Investment Conference – South Asia (HICSA) will have special emphasis on the hotel owners.
