FRHI Hotels & Resorts has joined hands with China’s leading real estate developer, Jiangsu Golden Land Group, to announce the debut of Neqta Hotels, a new lifestyle brand and hotel portfolio which will comprise upper mid-scale hotels in some of the most in-demand destinations across China. Neqta Hotels aims to be a contemporary hotel brand that will appeal to tech-savvy travelers and is targeted in particular to the millennial business traveler in the 22 to 40 age demographic. The inaugural hotel under the Neqta flag opened on January 21, in Shanghai’s Xuhui District, in vicinity of the World Expo site. A second hotel opening is expected to follow in Nanjing soon. Operated by FRHI, Neqta will be marketed apart from FRHI's collection of Fairmont, Raffles and Swissôtel brands.

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces announced the opening of its luxury hotel, the Taj Santacruz in Mumbai. Located outside the domestic terminal of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, the hotel features 279 rooms, of which 141 rooms are presently operational and the remaining are expected to open by 31st March. The property also features three restaurants, a bar and lounge, a spa, a swimming pool, a fitness centre, and over 16,000 square feet of meeting space. This property is now the fourth hotel of the Taj group in Mumbai.

Kata Group has appointed AccorHotels to manage the former Kandaburi Resort and Spa. Located on Chaweng beach, the 181-room resort will be rebranded as the Novotel Samui Resort Chaweng Beach Kandaburi. The resort features three restaurants and bars, two swimming pools, and a spa. According to Pramookpisitt Achariyachai, Kata Group Resorts’ Founder and President, “Koh Samui is a very competitive market and we are confident that the reputation of the Novotel brand combined with AccorHotels’ global distribution channels will help raise the profile and prosperity of the property for many years to come. We will continue our strategy of partnership with international brands as well as operating our own brands, such as ‘Beyond’, as we grow our presence in Thailand and support the country’s thriving tourism industry.” Kata Group owns six upscale resorts in Southern Thailand, five of which it operates.

French hotel major AccorHotels has opened its second 'ibis' branded budget property in Chennai. The hotel is also the group’s third property in Chennai, after the ibis Chennai SIPCOT and Novotel Chennai SIPCOT, and the 12th ibis in the country. Located in the heart of the city, the hotel offers 155 guestrooms, a restaurant, a lounge and bar area, and two meeting rooms.

Sarovar Hotels & Resorts, along with the Madhvani Group, opened the Marasa Sarovar Premiere in Tirupati. The hotel features 121 rooms, two specialty restaurants, a bar, a health club, a swimming pool, Buddha Spa, and two boardrooms and a banquet hall measuring 3,155 square feet. Located in the state of Andhra Pradesh, the temple town of Tirupati is amongst the top religious destinations in India.
