Rod Clough (MAI) began with HVS in 1995 and is the Managing Director of the Denver Consulting and Valuation Services division; he is also the Managing Partner for HVS offices in Atlanta, Dallas, Minneapolis, and Washington. Rod’s work in the hospitality industry spans more than 20 years. In addition to thousands of individual appraisal and consulting projects, Rod has successfully coordinated some of firm’s most challenging assignments, including large-scale portfolio work for Hilton and Extended StayAmerica.
Rod is a Designated Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) and a state certified general appraiser. His industry experience spans all hotel property types and brand segments, including convention headquarters hotels, resorts, limited-service and full-service hotels, and extended-stay hotels. During his tenure with HVS, he has overseen the production of thousands of appraisal and consulting reports and published numerous articles and professional studies on the lodging industry. In 2007, Rod coordinated appraisals of nearly 200 properties associated with the $26-billion sale of Hilton Hotels to The Blackstone Group, an unprecedented transaction in the history of the international lodging industry. He also conducted the analysis of the proposed convention headquarters hotel for the City of Dallas.
Rod led the effort to streamline HVS’ report completion process, allowing for new standards of accuracy and efficiency to speed the delivery of reports into clients’ hands. He continues to lead innovation efforts, helping keep HVS reports and services on the cutting edge for clients.
Rod strives for innovation on the social and environmental fronts, as well. In September of 2008, he took the HVS Dallas, Atlanta, Boston, Washington, D.C., and Mexico City offices carbon neutral following several years of efforts to reduce each location’s carbon footprint. All members of his team support their communities through a commitment to regular volunteer service, and the team as a whole annually participates in national events such as MS Walk and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
In his spare time, Rod keeps busy raising his two girls, Becca and Rory, with frequent trips to the playground, the soccer field, Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, and creative time in the backyard as weather permits. Rod is a regular volunteer at his neighborhood school and also supports other important causes in his hometown. When he can manage a break from work and parenthood, Rod likes to sit down at his piano. He has been playing for 30 years and harbors a particular love for the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique.
