Starwood named best Asia Pacific Hotel Chain Return to Headlines
Starwood Hotels & Resorts, won the Best Hotel Chain Asia, Hawaii/Pacific and Top Overall Hotel Group at the 11th annual Travel Weekly’s Readers Choice Awards. In 2013, the company opened 23 hotels in Asia Pacific, led by openings in China and Southeast Asia. In 2014, Starwood plans to open five more hotels including Sheraton Melbourne Hotel, Four Points by Sheraton Brisbane, Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Resort & Spa, Sheraton Fiji Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island and debut Starwood’s and Sheraton brand in Samoa with Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Resort.

Etihad Airways pumps up flights to India Return to Headlines

Etihad Airways has scaled up capacity on routes to India on the back of escalating demand for more seat capacity. Daily flights to Jaipur are scheduled to start in 1Q2014. It will also commence between 7 and 14 flights per week to Kochi from June, to Bengaluru and Chennai from July and to Hyderabad from October. Higher capacity aircraft will be deployed on existing routes which will further increase its seat capacity.

 
Four new Accor hotels planned for 2017 in South Korea Return to Headlines

Accor group has announced the signing of a brand-new hotel complex in Seoul’s Youngsan neighbourhood for 2017. The complex will house the brands: Novotel, Suite Novotel, ibis Styles and Grand Mercure. The four hotels will have a total capacity of 2,000 rooms and will be the largest hotel complex in the country. It is situated between a shopping centre and the Yeouido financial district. Accor is currently the largest hotel chain in South Korea and has 12 hotels spread throughout 5 cities.

 
Shangri-la Hotel Lhasa to open Return to Headlines

Shangri-la Hotel and Resorts will bring its world-renowned hospitality to the highest region on earth with the debut of its newest 289-room Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa which will open on 17th April 2014. Lhasa, the administrative capital of Tibet, is set on a plateau soaring 3,650 metres above sea level and the city is encircled by the fabled Himalayan mountains, glaciers and desert-like landscapes.

 
Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort Opens Return to Headlines

This week, Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the official opening of Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort. Developed by Kamala Bay Ventures, the 199-room property features one of the largest swimming pools on the island, eight private spa suites and Camp Hyatt which is equipped with a full range of game, toys and electronic entertainment for children. In addition, the resort offers more than 4,300 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting and conference facilities.

 
Tourist Development in Taiwan Return to Headlines

The Taiwan Tourism Bureau announced a range of new developments taking place in 2014 which will further enrich the experiences of its visitors. Emirates will launch a new direct route between Dubai and Taipei that will commence on 10th February 2014. The Mandarin Oriental, Tapei is scheduled to open its 300-rooms in April/May 2014 and the Xinyi Line of Taipei’s Metro is now fully operational. In addition, there is an exciting line up of annual festivals that celebrate the country’s rich diversity of cultures.
