Mandalika project to start first phase development Return to Headlines
The Mandalika Resort project in Lombok will kick off with road construction in the 400-hectare first-phase development, starting in November 2013. From June 2014, the construction of three hotels, including Club Med and Marriott Vacations, and an 18-hole golf course will commence. Two other five-star properties to be run by international hotel operators are also in the pipeline. Developed and managed by Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC), the Mandalika Resort project covers a total area of 1,175 hectares and will be developed in three stages, with a target to complete by 2020.

Outrigger to launch a second brand Return to Headlines

Outrigger Enterprises Group is launching a second global brand, which will enable it to tap the mid-tier urban hotel market. The brand is expected to debut in 2014, most likely in Hawaii. In addition, a number of locations have also been identified in Australia and Asia. Moving forward, Outrigger is looking to extend its footprint to China and Vietnam, with developments in Hainan and Vinh Hoi respectively.

 
Wyndham to expand beyond China Return to Headlines

Wyndham Hotel Group is looking to expand outside of China, especially in countries like Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar, where it does not have a presence at the moment. In recent years, Wyndham has enlarged its footprint aggressively in the Asia-Pacific region, growing from 57 hotels in 2005 to 737 hotels currently, of which 85 per cent are in China, followed by India and the Philippines.

 
British Airways, Dragonair increase flights to India Return to Headlines

British Airways will launch a sixth London-Chennai flight from 27 October 2013, operating six times a week except Thursday, using its Boeing 777-200 aircraft. With the latest addition, British Airways’ flights to India’s five cities will now total 48 weekly. Meanwhile, Dragonair has increased its service from Hong Kong to Kolkata from four to five flights weekly this month, adding capacity to a busy route from the eastern Indian gateway to Hong Kong, Macau and beyond, through its own and Cathay Pacific networks.

 
Tourism New Zealand launches latest ‘Every day a different story’ campaign Return to Headlines

Tourism New Zealand launches the latest ‘Every day a different story’ campaign in Australia, as part of its marketing activity to promote various regions throughout New Zealand. Started earlier this month, the latest campaign promotes the hidden gems of the Wellington, Marlborough and Wairarapa region, and the wide range of accessible experiences on offer for visitors. The latest activity directly follows on from the first phase of the campaign, which promoted the Central and Upper North Island region. Further ‘Every day a different story’ campaigns promoting the Queenstown and Christchurch region are scheduled to roll out later this year.
