Renaissance and Traders Open in Johor Return to Headlines
Johor Bahru has seen two internationally branded properties open this week with the opening of the Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel and the Traders Hotel Puteri Harbour. The 345-room Renaissance is Marriott International's seventh property in Malaysia and is located in Permas Jaya, close to the Johor Bahru city centre and Pasir Gudang, a port and industrial area. Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts launched its third Traders property with the 283-room Traders Hotel Puteri Harbour. The property is located at the Puteri Harbour development which houses theme parks, restaurants, retail outlets, a marina and promenade and also forms part of the Iskandar development area.

New World Hospitality Changes Name to Rosewood Hotel Group Return to Headlines

Hong Kong-based New World Hospitality has changed its name to Rosewood Hotel Group, adopting the Rosewood brand which the company acquired in 2011. The name change comes as the group is gearing up on expanding its portfolio from 40 hotels in 14 countries to 90 hotels in operation or pipeline in the next five years. Rosewood Hotel Group will continue to manage its three brands, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, New World and Pentahotels.

 
Outrigger Acquires Mauritius Property Return to Headlines

Outrigger Hotels and Resorts has announced its purchase of the 181-key Movenpick Resort and Spa Mauritius from Kingdom Hotel Investments. The property will be closed for a six-month renovation and will reopen as the Outrigger Mauritius Resort and Spa by the end of 2013. The property will retain its 181 rooms and will reopen with three swimming pools, a 1,800 square metre spa, three restaurants and a children's club. This marks Hawaiian-based Outrigger's first property in the Indian Ocean.

 
Jin Jiang to Debut in Philippines Return to Headlines
China's Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels will make its debut in Philippines with two Jin Jiang Inns. Due to open by 2014, the two properties will be in prime Metro manila locations. The 95-room Jin Jiang Inn Ortigas will be located in the Ortigas CBD and shopping area and will open this year. Jin Jiang Inn Greenbelt, located opposite New World Makati Hotel, will have 70 rooms and will open in late 2014. The two properties will be owned by Liwayway Group, Injap Investments and Simon Paz Steniel Realty and Development.
 
ONYX to Operate First Football Themed Hotel in Thailand Return to Headlines
ONYX Hospitality Group has been appointed to operate a football themed hotel in Buriram, the North Eastern province in Thailand. The 60-room Amari Buriram United is owned by Buriram United Sport Hotel Co. Ltd and will pay tribute to football and the local team, Buriram United. The hotel structure will resemble a stadium and the property will include a mini football field. Amari Buriram United will be part of a stadium complex and a motor sports circuit which will be added in 2014. This property marks Amari's first themed hotel and is scheduled to open in Q4 2013.
