Pinnacle Entertainment Takes US$95 Million Stake In Asian Coast Development Return to Headlines

US casino operator, Pinnacle Entertainment, has announced a US$95 million investment in Asian Coast Development (Canada) Ltd (ACDL), the owner and developer of integrated resorts and residential development in the Ho Tram Strip beachfront complex in southern Vietnam. With this investment, Pinnacle has acquired a 26% equity interest in ACDL and has secured a management agreement that will run through 2058 for the second integrated resort of the multi-phase Ho Tram Strip destination resorts project. Pinnacle and ACDL are anticipating that this second integrated resort, which will be branded as a luxurious and distinct resort, will be similar in project scope to the MGM Grand Ho Tram resort that is currently under construction and expected to open in 2013.

Yangon Airport Scheduled For Upgrade Return to Headlines

The Yangon International Airport is expected to undergo an expansion, as traffic volume at the airport is approaching capacity. With a strong increase in arrivals this year, the Myanmar government is planning to extend and upgrade the airport in order to increase the annual passenger capacity from 2.7 million to 3.8 million. The airport had a 21.7% year-on-year increase in international arrivals in the last quarter, with over 51,000 international visitor arrivals, while domestic arrivals were recorded at over 360,000, up 23.5%. Total arrivals at the airport are anticipated to hit 2 million passengers this year and are expected to surpass the airport's capacity of 2.7 million passengers a year.

Vietnam To Invest Billions In Tourism Return to Headlines
Vietnam is planning on investing an estimated US$42.5 billion to develop its tourism infrastructure over the next ten years. This is part of the country's aim to boost its domestic and international tourist arrivals, from 28 million arrivals in 2010 to almost 50 million arrivals by 2020 for domestic arrivals, and from 5.5 million arrivals in 2010 to 10.5 million arrivals by 2020 for international arrivals. Twenty percent of this multi-billion dollar investment is set to come from the state, while the rest will come from local and foreign investors. There is current pressure to develop the country's hotel and resort industry instead of relying on Vietnam's heritage sites and natural scenery, with priority given to infrastructure development.
