Hainan Island's Yalong Bay is set to welcome a St. Regis Hotel in November this year. The St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay Resort will be located along the coastline of Yalong Bay, an increasing popular destination with both domestic and international travellers, adding on to the brand's portfolio in China. The resort has 401 rooms and suites plus 28 beach villas, with each guestroom offering modern technological amenities such as HD cable televisions, laptop and MP3 charging stations. In a bid to position themselves at the top of the luxury market in Hainan, The resort will also be the first to extend a butler service to every guest in the resort. |

The South Korean government has announced a series of measures in a bid to boost the tourism industry in its capital city. According the Korea Tourism Organisation, foreign visitors to the country have increased by 12.5% year-on-year to reach 8.8 million in 2010. International arrivals to the country have been strong over the past few years, and the government aims to build on this with new measures to further boost Seoul's tourism market. Plans include adding up to 36,000 hotel rooms by 2015 and also targeting the growing Chinese market by providing more Chinese-language tours and supporting the restaurants to develop Chinese-friendly menus. |

Best Western International has expanded its presence in Malaysia with the opening of its latest property in the country, the Best Western Marina Island Resort Pangkor. The resort is part of the mixed-use Marina Island Pangkor development, which is located off the coastline of Teluk Muruh in Perak, overseeing Pangkor Island and Pangkor Laut. The 170-key resort offers facilities including an on-site restaurant serving local and international cuisines, meeting rooms and well as a variety of outdoor activities such as water sports, diving, fishing and island tours. The development can be reached via a bridge from Perak mainland or a five minutes boat ride from Pangkor Island. |

The Bhutan Council of Tourism (BCT) has opened a representation office in the USA as part of its plans to promote the country as a prime tourist destination. The remote kingdom, which is located at the eastern end of the Himalayas, attracted just 40,900 visitors last year. Nevertheless, the figures indicated an increase of 47.5% as compared to 2009, and the BCT aims to build on this with the establishment of the US office. Bhutan actively promotes the idea of measuring progress with a 'Gross National Happiness' and was formerly voted as the 'happiest country in Asia' by Business Week.

Saigontourist has announced plans to carry out major refurbishment works for its Majestic Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. The refurbishment project will include the development of two towers next to the hotel, adding another 353 rooms to it. This will increase Majestic Hotel's total room inventory to 583 rooms, and will come at a cost of approximately US$91.3 million. The company also has plans to carry out improvement works on the other properties in its portfolio such as the Grand Hotel, Kim Do Hotel and Continental Hotel, which are all intended to be eventually positioned as five star quality properties. |
