Despite attempts by the government to cool the market,
property prices in China are continuing to increase from a
year earlier. The National Bureau of Statistics reported
that even though the property price index in August fell
slightly from July’s 10.3% rise, it still registered a rise
of 9.3% from a year earlier. However, property prices in 70
of China’s large- and medium-sized cities were unchanged for
the second consecutive month in August. Analysts said that
the current measures need to be strengthened in order to
curb the speculation that has driven up property prices and
could increase social discontent and economic risks. |
