Judging by the latest figures from the Urban Redevelopment
Authority (URA) and the Housing Development Board (HDB), the
cooling measures announced in Singapore at the end of August
this year seems to be taking effect on the property market.
URA has reported that even though private home prices have
continued to rise, this reflects a drop from 5.3% in the
second quarter of the year to 3.1% in the third quarter. HDB
has also reported that resale transactions volume in the
public housing market has dropped by about 25% in September
as compared to August. Analysts believe that the full effect
of the measures will be better illustrated in the fourth
quarter of 2010. |

Demand for luxury real estate properties in popular tourist
destinations such as Phuket and Koh Samui is increasing and
property experts are optimistic on the outlook for the
region. Property firms have highlighted that various luxury
residential projects that were on hold previously are now
moving forward. Property firms have attributed this increase
in demand to a recovery of the purchasing power, which has
previously affected the luxury property market in tourist
destinations in Thailand. |
