Singapore’s Mapletree forms serviced apartment JV with Oakwood Worldwide Return to Headlines
Mapletree Group and U.S.-based Oakwood Worldwide have signed a corporate and serviced apartment joint venture that aims to open more than 100 new properties around the world over the next five years. Mapletree will acquire a 49 percent stake in Oakwood Worldwide’s serviced apartment business in Asia and will target acquiring and developing some US$4 billion worth of corporate and serviced apartment assets within Asia, Europe and North America.

DRH introduces The Els Club Teluk Datai Return to Headlines

DRH, entrusted by the investment arm of the Malaysian government to enrich the tourism landscape of Malaysia, will celebrate the opening of the first Els Club in Southeast Asia, representing a new benchmark of excellence for golf tourism in the region. The Els Club Teluk Datai is an 18-hole championship golf course set in Langkawi and is located adjacent to The Datai Langkawi. Another two golf courses The Els Club Malaysia will be located in Desaru Coast, the region’s first luxury integrated destination in Johor. Besides Desaru Coast, DRH has also developed Little Red Cube; an integrated retail lifestyle and family entertainment complex and Traders Hotel Puteri Harbour in Nusajaya, Johor.

 
Sabah records new tourist highs Return to Headlines

In 2013, Sabah recorded a 17.6 per cent increase in tourist arrivals to 3.38 million and a 15 per cent increase in tourism revenues to RM 6.35 billion from 2012. This is the highest growth ever recorded for the State and it was largely driven by ecotourism, with tourists visiting the state’s wildlife and national parks. Domestic tourism contributed 68% of the total arrivals while international arrivals grew by 15.7 per cent, with China travellers increasing by 86.7 per cent from a year earlier. Other growth markets included South Korea and Japan that grew by 32.1 and 25.0 per cent respectively.

 
Philippines Airlines and Etihad Airways announces partnership Return to Headlines

Philippine Airlines and Etihad Airways have sealed a MoU that will see the carriers collaborate on codesharing, frequent flyer reciprocity, airport lounge access, air pass agreements and cargo cooperation. Etihad operates twice-daily Boeing 777-300ER flights between Abu Dhabi and Manila, which was its second busiest route in 2013. This partnership aims to tap into the 700,000 filipinos who live in the UAE and make up a substantial amount of traffic between the two countries.

 
Accor to implement digital solution to welcome guests Return to Headlines

Accor announces the implementation of a digital service to reinvent the guest welcome experience at its hotels. This service will be implemented in 1000 Accor hotels worldwide by end 2014 and aims to give customers a simpler, more personalized hotel welcome by allowing guests to check-in two days prior to their stay that will allow them to check-in immediately on arrival without the usual administrative formalities. This new system has been tested in some European establishments and is currently deployed in 60 hotels in 13 countries.

 
Traders Hotel, Yangon rebranded to Sule Shangri-La, Yangon Return to Headlines

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced that the Trader Hotel, Yangon will be rebranded to operate as Sule Shangri-La, Yangon following an extensive two-and-a-half year renovation. The 484-room hotel has been opened since 1996 and has been a major fixture in the city’s central business district. Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts currently owns and/or manages more than 80 hotels under the Shangri-La brand with a room inventory of over 34,000.
