Absolute Hotel Services (AHS) has unveiled plans to launch its U Hotels & Resorts brand in the historic Vietnamese city of Hoi An. The company has taken over the management contract of the existing Hoi An Beach Resort, and will now renovate the property before relaunching it as the U Hoi An in late 2014. Located between De Vong River and Cua Dai Beach, the U Hoi An will feature 121 rooms with river, garden or beach views. Resort facilities will include a new lobby building, two restaurants, two bars, two swimming pools, a gym, spa, conference facilities and a private beach area.

An agreement with Indonesia’s Rajawali Group will see the all-suite St Regis Jakarta open in 2016, as part of a new mixed-use development in the Mega Kuningan area of the city. The 141,000m² project, which is already under construction, will include the 124-room hotel and a 47-storey office tower, plus F&B and retail components. The hotel forms part of a 20-year strategic partnership between Starwood and Rajawali, which has already included the development of the St Regis Bali.

Opening in January 2014, Anantara Phuket Layan Resort & Spa will be located at Layan Beach, on the island’s northwest coast, 20 minutes’ drive from Phuket International Airport. The new resort will feature 77 suites and villas, all featuring iPod docking stations, Apple TVs, wine cabinets, in-room bars, Nespresso coffee machines and free Wi-Fi. The 47 villas will all feature private pools. The resort’s F&B options include the Sala Layan, an all-day dining restaurant, and the Deeplee Thai restaurant, plus the Infinity Bar and Breeze pool bar. Other resort facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, spa, fitness centre, gift shop, library and kids’ club, plus a range of watersports and bicycle hire.

Far East Hospitality has launched a new Peranakan-inspired hotel in Singapore – Village Hotel Katong. The upscale property is a 229-room hotel designed in a style that reflects the Peranakan heritage of eastern Singapore’s Katong and Joo Chiat districts.The property was formerly known as the Paramount Hotel and Shopping Centre, but recently completed a SG$30 million (US$24.1m) refurbishment before being relaunched under the Village brand. Other hotel amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi access, airport shuttle services, a club lounge, swimming pool and gym, plus five meeting rooms.

Tourism New Zealand has formed a new marketing partnership aimed at boosting summer visitor numbers to Queenstown. The new joint marketing agreement with Destination Queenstown will showcase the adventurous side of the South Island city to Australian visitors. The campaign, ‘Everyday a different story’, will be rolled out in New South Wales and Victoria, with a focus on attracting more visitors to Queenstown from January to April 2014.

Philippine Airlines’ first flight from Manila to London in 15 years will land at Heathrow this afternoon on November 4, and ready to attend World Travel Market. PAL’s president Ramon S. Ang will be onboard the inaugural flight, which is the first European destination PAL has flown into since it was removed from an EU airline blacklist. The route will now operate five times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
