Melbourne Airport Unveils Expansion Plans Return to Headlines
Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport will undergo an expansion which will see the addition of a third runway and a rail link. Passenger capacity at Tullamarine Airport is expected to double from 29 million this year to 64 million passengers by 2033. The construction of the proposed third runway, due to be operational by 2022, will help to cope with the rise in passenger numbers. To reduce congestion around the airport, an airport rail link which will connect to the city has also been proposed. The airport expansion plan will cost an estimated A$10 billion and has set out the vision for the airport's development for the next 20 years.

Best Western to Launch in Myanmar Return to Headlines

Best Western International has announced plans to enter Myanmar, with the management of the Green Hill Hotel. Located in the centre of Yangon, the six-month-old property features 189 rooms and suites and will be operated under the group's midscale brand, Best Western. With the management of the property, Best Western International will become the first American operator to enter the country since Myanmar opened up to international development. The company plans on having further developments in Myanmar in the near future.

 
Rotana Hotel Management Sets Sights on India Return to Headlines

Abu Dhabi-based Rotana Hotel Management has announced plans to enter the Indian hotel market with a pipeline of 20 hotels within the next 10 years. The group's first property in India is planned for opening in 2016 and will be under its Arjaan Hotel Apartments by Rotana brand and located in Delhi NCR. Rotana's mid-scale brand, Centro Hotels, is expected to debut in India shortly after. Rotana currently has a portfolio of 46 hotels in 10 countries within the Middle East and plans to almost double its portfolio with another 44 hotels in the pipeline by 2016.

 
Direct Connection from Phuket to the Philippines to Launch Return to Headlines
Cebu Pacific Air will launch the first direct connection from Philippines to Phuket commencing August 2013. This marks Cebu Pacific's second destination in Thailand, following its direct route from Philippines to Bangkok from Manila, Cebu and Clark. The new Manila-Phuket service will operate thrice a week and will depart from Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippine capital. The launch of this new flight route marks the latest phase in the airline's international expansion. Cebu Pacific plans to launch flights from Cebu to Taipei in July 2013 and its first long-haul service will commence in October 2013, linking Manila to Dubai.
 
Big Hotel Makes Debut in Singapore Return to Headlines
Big Hotel, a new hotel brand, has made its debut in Singapore. The first addition to the brand's portfolio, Big Hotel features 300 rooms and 8 suites. The owners, ERC Holdings, plan to develop the brand across Asia Pacific. Each of its 308 rooms features a software application that enables guests to control room temperature, TV and lightning while surfing the Internet and also provides guests with island-wide 3G connectivity. Located in close proximity to the central business district and Orchard Road, Big Hotel is targeted at the savvy and design-conscious traveller.
