Sheraton to Expand in China with Seven New Hotels Return to Headlines

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc has announced that it will be opening seven more hotels under the Sheraton brand in China before the end of September. Sheraton will open its second hotel in Beijing and Xian, and its first in Yantai, Guangzhou, Zhenjiang, Wanning and Hangzhou. With the addition of these seven hotels, Sheraton will expand its portfolio in China to 42 hotels by year's end, enabling Starwood to move closer to its goal of operating 100 hotels in China by the end of 2012.

 
New World Hospitality Acquires Rosewood Hotels Return to Headlines

Hong Kong-based New World Hospitality will be acquiring Rosewood Hotels & Resorts LLC from its current owners Rosewood Corp. and Maritz, Wolff & Co. for US$229.5 million. With this acquisition, Rosewood will be operating as the premium luxury brand in New World's portfolio, which includes the select-service Penta Hotels brands and the upscale New World Hotels. The New World brand has a presence in China, Manila and Saigon and Penta Hotels has 15 hotels located in countries such as China, Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom. Projects that New World is currently developing in Asia may adopt the Rosewood brand.

 
Tourism Australia and SIA Tie Up Return to Headlines

Tourism Australia and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have signed a new commercial agreement, which will take effect from 1 July 2011. This three-year agreement will enable Tourism Australia and SIA to jointly fund a range of tourism promotion activities intended to attract more overseas travellers to Australia. Singapore Airlines is investing close to US$1 million as part of this partnership to promote Australia and key markets targeted in the agreement include China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, UK and Vietnam, as well as Singapore.

 
Centara to Debut in Indonesia and Mauritius Return to Headlines
Bangkok-based Centara Hotels & Resorts will be making its debut in Mauritius and Indonesia with the signing of 2 new management contracts in the two countries. The Centara Grand Nusa Dua Resort & Villas in Bali is a 90-room resort that is scheduled to open in December and will feature 14 villas. Other facilities include two restaurants, a spa, two swimming pools and meeting space. The 98-room Centara Poste Lafayette Resort & Spa Mauritius is due to open in October 2012 and will be located on the northeast coast of the island and the resort will have its own diving reef.
 
Fairmont Announces New Hotel in Northern China Return to Headlines
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts announced earlier this week the opening of a new property in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province in Northern China. The 330-room hotel will be situated along the Fen River and will be within walking distance of the new Central Business District. The Fairmont Taiyuan will feature 3,500 square metres of function space, fitness and pool facilities as well as a spa by the award-winning signature spa brand, Willow Stream Spa. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2014 and will join other Fairmont properties in China such as the Fairmont Beijing, Fairmont Nanjing, Fairmont Peace Hotel and Fairmont Yangcheng Lake.
