South Korea's Pyeongchang county has been selected by the International Olympic Committee to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. Located in the southeastern part of the country, Pyeongchang received 95 votes, convincingly beating the other candidates, Munich in Germany and Annecy in France. Pyeongchang's victory comes after two previous failed attempts for the 2010 and 2014 Games. This is the first time South Korea is representing Asia to host the event, as Japan was the host for the previous editions when it was held in Asia. |

According to figures released by Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), international visitor arrivals to Vietnam reached 2.97 million in the first six months of this year. This translates to an 18.1% increase over the same period last year, and also sets a record for the first half of a year. VNAT has indicated that this strong growth was driven largely by Chinese visitor arrivals, which increased by more than 50% year-on-year to hit 662,600 visitors, making it by far Vietnam's largest feeder market. The other top feeder markets, including South Korea, Japan and the USA, all saw year-on-year increases in arrivals as well. |

The 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Programme, an initiative aimed at helping hotels achieve better waste management and increase recycling rates, has been launched for the hotels in Singapore. A joint collaboration between Singapore Hotels Association (SHA) and the National Environment Agency (NEA), this programme is part of NEA's effort to encourage different industry sectors to play their part in achieving the recycling rate target of 70% by 2030. Estimated figures have shown that hotels in Singapore produce about 60,000 tonnes of solid waste a year and less than 10% of the waste is being recycled. Approximately 35% of SHA-member hotels have already signed up for the 3R programme.

According to the China Daily, the timetable for the construction of the new airport in Beijing has been drafted and its inaugural flight is expected to take off in October 2017. The new airport is said to be located in Daxing District in the south of the city, covering an area of approximately 55 square kilometres and equipped with nine runways. The new airport is expected to handle a capacity of 400 million travellers annually, providing much needed support for the heavy traffic flow at the current airport, as well as promoting infrastructural development in southern Beijing. |
