Marriott Plans 24 New Hotels in Asia Pacific Return to Headlines

Marriott Hotels & Resorts has announced a global pipeline of nearly 50 new hotels and resorts to open in the next four years, of which 24 will be located in the Asia Pacific region. Six properties are expected to open in Asia Pacific this year: Shanghai Marriott Luwan, Jaipur Marriott Hotel, Shanghai Marriott Hotel City Centre, Guangzhou Marriott Hotel Tianhe, Rayong Marriott Resort & Spa, Thailand and the Haikou Marriott Resort and Spa in China's southern island province of Hainan. In total the 24 new properties will add 7,627 rooms to the brand's regional inventory.

 
Best Western Signs New Hotel in Bangkok Return to Headlines

Earlier this week, Best Western International added a new hotel in Thailand to its portfolio with the signing of The Grand Howard Hotel in Bangkok. The Grand Howard Hotel will be part of the 'Best Western Plus' Collection, which is Best Western's recently launched upscale brand. The 256-room hotel is conveniently located in the Sathorn area, close to the commercial, shopping and entertainment scene in Bangkok and the rooms offer views of the city or the nearby Chao Phraya River.

 
Sofitel Opens 20th Hotel in China Return to Headlines

Accor's Sofitel Luxury Hotels has increased it network in China with the opening of its 20th property in China, the Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich. Located in the central Tianhe and close to the iconic skyscraper CITIC Plaza and the East Railway Station, the hotel's location is part of its goal to become the meeting place for the city's cultural events. The 493-room hotel offers five food and beverage outlets, 17 meeting rooms and a 900 square metre conference room, equipped with the latest multimedia technology and equipment.

 
Four World Heritage Sites Declared in Asia Pacific Return to Headlines
Following the 35th session of the World Heritage committee, UNESCO has added four new Asia Pacific landmarks to its list of World Heritage sites. Japan had two entries: the 'Hiraizumi - Temples, Gardens & Archaeological Sites Representing the Buddhist Pure Land' located in the north of Honshu Island, and the Ogasawara Islands, a group of 30 islands covering 7,393 hectares in the Pacific Ocean, which are home to 195 endangered bird species. The 'West lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou' was China's addition to the list, while Western Australia's Ningaloo Coast, one of the longest near-shore reefs in the world and an extensive network of underground caves, completed the list.
 
First JW Marriott in North India Opens Return to Headlines
The first JW Marriott hotel in North India, the JW Marriott Chandigarh, has recently opened its doors. Located in the capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana and the Union Territory, this is the second JW Marriott property in India following the brand's debut in Juhu, Mumbai. The 170-room JW Marriott Chandigarh will offer an array of fining options with four food and beverage outlets and guests will be able to indulgence in relaxation from the renowned Quan Spa and the JW Fitness Centre will offer world-class fitness facilities. The hotel also features state-of-the-art banqueting facilities and 16,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.
