Solis Hotels & Resorts Makes Its Entry Into China Return to Headlines

China Vanke Company Limited is partnering Solis Hotels & Resorts to debut the first Solis property in China. The flagship 200-room Solis Vanke Centre, Shenzhen will be located in the popular resort area of Yantian, offering guests convenient access to Dameisha Beach, and other amenities such as theme parks, golf courses, and business and shopping centres. The property will be directly connected to the 8,000-square-metre Vanke International Conference Centre, which offers among other meeting facilities, a 1,100-square-metre grand ballroom. The project will be completed in two phases, with the conference centre opening end of June this year, followed by the hotel opening during the second quarter of 2012.

 
Possible Plans For A Second International Airport In Nepal Return to Headlines

Nepal is exploring the possibility of opening a second international airport in the country. Korean-based Landmark Worldwide has submitted a feasibility study for a new airport to be located in Nijgadh in Bara District of southern Nepal. The proposed airport will feature a 75,500-square-metre passenger terminal with six boarding gates, and will come at an estimated cost of approximately US$650 million. If the project is approved, the proposed airport could be ready as early as 2015. Nepal’s Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has commented that the new airport will be well-placed to address the overcrowding issue currently faced by the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

 
Sofitel To Debut In Guangzhou, China Return to Headlines

Sofitel will be making its foray into the Guangzhou hotel market in May 2011 with the 493-room Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich. The property is located within Tianhe District, amid upscale shopping malls and proximate to the CITIC Plaza and the Guangzhou East Railway Station. Facilities at the hotel include five bars and restaurants, 17 meeting rooms and a 900-square-metre grand ballroom. The Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich will be soft opening on 18 May 2011 while the grand opening is scheduled to take place on 10 June 2011.

 
Oberoi Group Expands Portfolio With New Property In New Delhi Return to Headlines
Oberoi Group has announced the opening of the 202-key The Oberoi, Gurgaon in the district of Gurgaon in New Delhi, National Capital Region. The hotel, which is conveniently located just 15 minutes away from the international airport, offers the city’s first luxurious suites with private heated pools and also the city's first 24-hour spa. Other highlights of The Oberoi, Gurgaon include India's first ‘jewel box’ lobby adjacent to a reflection pool and the world's largest green wall. The Oberoi Group, founded in 1934, operates 32 hotels and cruisers under the luxury Oberoi and five-star Trident brands in India, Egypt, Mauritius, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
 
Lion Air To Expand Bali’s International Routes Return to Headlines

Jakarta-based carrier, Lion Air, is planning to boost its Bali network by launching a series of new routes. These new routes will be covering destinations in Japan, China and Australia, with flights connecting Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport with Fukuoka, Guangzhou and Melbourne from 2012 onwards. To do so, Lion Air will have to increase the capacity of the fuel tanks on eight of its medium-range aircraft. The new routes will expand the carrier’s network, which currently includes several international routes to destinations including Jeddah, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Singapore.
