Aerowisata To Expand Its Portfolio Of Properties Return to Headlines
Garuda Indonesia's hospitality arm, Aerowisata Hotels and Resorts, is planning to develop eight new properties by 2012 to support the airline's domestic network. The first to open in November will be the Villa Alam Ubud in Bali which will feature 24 Balinese luxury villas. The remaining seven properties are slated to open between 2011 and 2012, and they include the Aerotel Biliton Beach in Biliton Island with 88 rooms, including 24 bungalows; the 110-room Aero Batam; the 130-room Aerotel Balikpapan in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan; and its first Jakarta property, the 150- room Aerowisata Jakarta.
 
Property Investments In Chiang Mai For IREIFS Return to Headlines
Paris-based IREIFS Investment Group is investing more than US$32.5 million on joint ventures for two new projects in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. The joint venture deals will see IREIFS develop a 50-key ecotourism resort in Chiang Mai’s countryside and an 88-unit condominium in the downtown area. The ecotourism project will feature 30 villas and a 20-suite lodge and is slated for completion in December 2011. The condominium project, which is expected to be completed in 2012, will comprise 88 residential units, retail shops and restaurants.
 
Taiwan Offers Free Online Visas To Hong Kong And Macau Residents Return to Headlines
Visitor arrivals to Taiwan are set to rise with the implementation of an easier process for visa application. Since 1 September 2010, travellers from Hong Kong and Macau have been able to apply for a visa to Taiwan online for free. Once their online applications have been approved, they can print the approval statements and use them to enter Taiwan. Arrivals from Macau and Hong Kong rose 5.89% to 450,927 for the first seven months of 2010. The new visa application process may see the rise of weekend travel to Taiwan during long weekends.
 
Best Western International Continues To Expand Its Presence In Asia And The Middle East Return to Headlines
With currently more than 40 new hotels in Asia and the Middle East in various stages of development, Best Western International aims to have more than 235 Best Western properties in these regions by the end of 2011. The international hotel chain currently has a portfolio of more than 160 properties in countries like mainland China, Taiwan, India and Japan, and Southeast Asia. Best Western also launched Bhuvana My Spa in Asia in early 2010, the first spa concept for the chain, at several new Best Western Premier hotels in Thailand and Indonesia.
 
Carlson Opens First Radisson Blu Hotel In Asia Pacific Return to Headlines
Carlson and SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation have announced that the first Radisson Blu hotel in Asia Pacific will open on 27 September 2010. Located in Cebu, the Philippines' oldest and second largest city, the 400-room Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu is designed to appeal to both business and leisure travellers. The hotel will offer state-of-the-art meeting and event facilities, including a 1,200-square-metre grand ballroom and ten function rooms. The Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu is centrally located in Cebu's financial and shopping districts, and is beside the SM City Cebu Mall, the largest shopping and entertainment complex in the region.
