First Sheraton Beach Property To Debut In Vietnam Return to Headlines
The Sheraton Nha Trang Hotel and Spa has officially opened its doors to visitors in Vietnam. The 284-guestroom hotel is located in downtown Nha Trang, less than an hour’s flight from Ho Chi Minh City. A joint venture between Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, and East Ocean Real Estate and Tourist Joint Stock Company, the hotel is Sheraton’s first beach property in Vietnam. Standout facilities for the hotel include the first purpose-built cooking school inside a hotel in Vietnam and a Wi-Fi community lounge.
 
Wyndham Expands Portfolio In China With Three New Additions Return to Headlines
Wyndham Hotel Group (Wyndham) has announced its continued expansion in China with management agreements for three new Wyndham Hotels and Resorts properties in Boao, located in south China’s Hainan Island Province. The move follows shortly after the recent opening of two luxury hotels in Shanghai and Chengdu. The three properties are the 300-room Wyndham Grand Boao Resort and Spa, the 106-room Wyndham Boao Resort, and the 350-room Wyndham Boao Resort and Conference Center. All three hotels are slated to open during the latter part of 2011.
 
ONYX Group Acquires Shama Return to Headlines
Thai-based hotel management company ONYX Hospitality Group (ONYX) has announced the acquisition of Shama, a boutique serviced apartments provider with properties across Greater China and Thailand. The group’s acquisition of Shama, which currently operates 13 properties in the region, will further strengthen its position in the serviced apartments sector. Shama will continue to trade under its brand name, becoming a brand offering within the ONYX group, which also includes Amari, its hotels and resorts brand.
 
DoubleTree By Hilton Introduces New Global Brand Identity Return to Headlines
Hilton Worldwide has introduced a new brand logo and name for DoubleTree by Hilton (currently Doubletree), in a bid to strengthen the brand’s equity within its portfolio of properties. The DoubleTree by Hilton logo and name will officially be launched during the first half of 2011 together as part of a comprehensive rebranding programme. The global repositioning and rebranding strategy is the first major change to the brand since 1995, and is also an evolution of the ‘by Hilton’ branding that has existed for a fast-growing collection of hotels outside of the United States.
 
New Projects In Thailand For Mövenpick Return to Headlines
Swiss-based Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts (Mövenpick) has announced plans to have three new properties in Thailand over the next three years. The three properties are the Mövenpick Suriwongse Hotel Chiang Mai, the Mövenpick Resort and Spa Mae Nam Beach Koh Samui, and the Mövenpick Hotel and Residences Bangkok. Mövenpick’s first hotel in the country was the Mövenpick Resort and Spa Karon Beach Phuket, which was opened in 2006. The company plans to have five hotels in Thailand by 2014.
