Boom Time For Shanghai Hotels During World Expo Return to Headlines
The Shanghai World Expo is injecting new life into the city's hotel scene, significantly raising hotel performances. According to the report from STR Global, average rates climbed to over US$145, a level last seen in October 2008. For the first time since November 2007, marketwide occupancy in May 2010 recorded over 70%. Benefitting from the significant increase in occupancy and average rates, RevPAR in May 2010 rose by over 100% as compared to the same period of 2009.
 
Sofitel To Add Fourth Hotel In Shanghai Return to Headlines
Sofitel Luxury Hotels (Sofitel) has signed on a new flagship property in Shanghai, Sofitel Shanghai Jing'an, which will open in 2011. Strategically located at the intersection of Beijing Road and Jiangning Road, the 515-key hotel will be Sofitel’s fourth property in Shanghai. Sofitel is expected to open two more hotels in China, namely Sofitel Lianyungang Suning Galaxy and Sofitel Haikou in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
 
Home2Home Rebrands Serviced Apartments Portfolio Return to Headlines
Following the recent acquisition of two serviced apartments from Kush Living, Home2Home has rebranded its property portfolio under the name of Ovolo. Well-known for its eco-friendly, design-conscious serviced apartments, Ovolo is now one of the largest owner-operators with 174 apartments in five buildings on Hong Kong Island.
 
StayWell To Bring Its Hotel Brand To Singapore Return to Headlines
Australian company StayWell Hospitality Group is set to launch the first Park Regis hotel in Singapore in September 2010. Located within close proximity to Marina Bay, Raffles Place and Clarke Quay, the 203-key Park Regis Singapore is expected to accommodate business travellers. StayWell’s portfolio currently includes 24 hotels. As part of its expansion strategy in Asia, the company is planning to bring its Leisure Inn and Park Regis brands to Singapore and other parts of Asia.
 
InterContinental To Double Presence In Greater China Over Next Five Years Return to Headlines
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has announced plans to double its presence in Greater China to over 250 hotels over the next five years. IHG recently opened InterContinental hotels in Nanjing and Shanghai, and signed a deal with HNA Hotels and Resorts for five hotels. IHG is currently the largest international hotel company in Greater China with 131 hotels (45,940 rooms) and 146 hotels (47,848 rooms) in the development pipeline.
