Best Western India and Indore-based developers The Horizon
Group are collaborating to open the Best Western Hotel
Horizon, to be located in Indore, the commercial capital of
Madhya Pradesh. Situated in the heart of the city in South
Tukoganj, Indore, the hotel is within close proximity to
commercial hubs and shopping malls. The opening will mark
Best Western’s entry into the central region of India. The
103-room, four-star hotel will feature three food and
beverage outlets as well as banqueting and conference space
to accommodate up to 400 people. The Best Western
Hotel Horizon is slated to open in October 2011. |

Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Asia has signed an agreement with
Dungfun Co Ltd to open and manage the Outrigger Koh Samui
Resort and Spa in Bhoput Beach, situated in the northeast
corner of Samui Island. The hotel, which is currently
operating as the Destination Beach Resort and Spa, will be
an 81-key luxury villa and suite resort, offering facilities
such as the Navasana Wellness Centre, three swimming pools
and a beachside restaurant. The Outrigger Koh Samui Resort
and Spa is scheduled to open on 1 February 2011. |

Marriott International (Marriott) has signed a management
agreement with Sanding Holding Group Co Ltd to open the Yiwu
Marriott Hotel in 2014. The 281-key hotel will be located at
the junction of Shangcheng Road and Futian Road, within
close proximity to the International Trade City. The Yiwu
Marriott Hotel will be the first Marriott hotel in the city,
which is popular with travellers from the European Union,
the United States and the United Arab Emirates. Facilities
at the hotel include three restaurants and approximately
1,410 square metres of meeting and function space. |

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide (Starwood) has announced
that it will open three new hotels in China under its Sheraton
brand by the end of January 2011. The three hotels are the
471-room Sheraton Shanghai Hongkou Hotel, 303-room Sheraton
Wenzhou Hotel and 298-room Sheraton Jiangyin Hotel. The new
hotel in Shanghai will be the brand’s third hotel in the city,
while the other two Sheraton hotels are making their debut in
Wenzhou and Jiangyin, respectively. The Sheraton Wenzhou Hotel
and Sheraton Jiangyin Hotel have already commenced operations
while the Sheraton Shanghai Hongkou Hotel is scheduled to open
on 15 January 2011. |

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts (Shangri-La) has announced the
purchase of six acres of government land facing the Galle
Face green promenade in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The acquired
land will be used to develop a mixed-use complex with
high-end retail facilities, deluxe apartments and a 500-key
luxury hotel, scheduled to be opened during the early part
of 2014. The move marks the group’s entry into Sri Lanka,
which has opened up significantly in terms of foreign
investments since the long-drawn conflict within the country
has ended. |
