First Grand Mercure Hotel In Beijing Return to Headlines

Accor has opened its first Grand Mercure hotel in Beijing with the rebranding of the former Marco Polo hotel into the Grand Mercure Xidan Beijing. According to Accor Asia Pacific Senior Vice President & CEO Greater China, Mr Brian Deeson, the new Grand Mercure Xidan Beijing complements other Accor projects currently being developed in Beijing before the 2008 Olympic Games. The four-star hotel is located in the heart of one of Beijing's main shopping and commercial districts and is within walking distance to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Accor currently manages 17 Grand Mercure hotels and resorts around Asia Pacific, with another six to open in 2007.


Seibu To Sell Six Prince Hotels For US$81 Million Return to Headlines

Seibu Holdings Inc. announced that it will sell six Prince Hotels for US$81 million by 1 June 2006 and book a total of US$41 million in special profit on the sales in fiscal year 2008. The sales are part of reconstruction efforts for the Seibu resort development and transportation group that was hit by an accounting fraud scandal in 2004.


Raffles Announces New Property In The Maldives Return to Headlines

Raffles Hotels & Resorts announced that it will manage Raffles Resort Konottaa, a luxury resort located at the Gaafu Alifu atoll, in southern Maldives. Opening in 2008, Raffles Resort Konottaa will feature 49 duplex villas with individual plunge pools, a RafflesAmrita spa and a variety of food and beverage outlets.


Outrigger Plans Return In Australia Market Following Rights' Sale to MFS Return to Headlines
Outrigger Enterprises Group (OEG) has wrapped up the sale of its hotel management rights to MFS�s Stella Resorts Group. At the same time, senior executives of OEG announced plans to reinvest the sales proceeds by setting up a new chain of Outrigger resorts throughout Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific. The proceeds from the sale would mostly be used to acquire other assets in and around Australia. The company has been expanding exponentially since its intention to sell its Australia/New Zealand management rights in August 2006 with the opening of the US$585 million Waikiki Beach Walk project and the acquisition of Ala Moana Hotel in Hawaii among other projects.

First Wyndham Hotel In Xiamen, China Will Open In 2007 Return to Headlines
Wyndham Hotel Group has announced the launch of the Wyndham brand in China with the opening of the Wyndham Xiamen hotel in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China. Opening in the fourth quarter of 2007, the 26-storey luxury standard hotel currently under construction will feature 550 guestrooms. The Wyndham Xiamen hotel will be the group's first fully managed property in the Asia Pacific region.
