Indian Hotel Industry Survey 2005-2006 Return to Headlines

The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has released the ninth annual edition of the Indian Hotel Industry Survey in collaboration with HVS International and sponsor, ECOTEL®. The survey, started in 1998, studies the aggregate operational and financial figures of the Indian hotel industry in seven major cities, where detailed information was available and twelve other cities where information was limited. Some of the areas of study include facilities, manpower, occupancies, marketing trends and operational performance among others. According to the president of the Federation, Mr Rajesh Mishra, this study is highly valued by many hotel professionals, investors, bankers, consultants, researchers, tourism government officers and those interested in setting up new hotel projects in various cities in India.

The annual Indian Hotel Industry Survey brings together industry's key statistics. The survey presents a study of 1,151 hotels (62,055 rooms) across various cities in India. Click here to download the survey.


Starwood Hotels & Resorts Plans To Open St. Regis Osaka Return to Headlines

The U.S. hotel giant is in negotiations to become the core tenant of a 27-floor high-rise building that Sekisui House Ltd. is slated to build along Midosuji Street, Osaka's main arterial road. Sekisui House, which is scheduled to by completed by 2009, will be a landmark building, taking advantage of the easing of building height regulations. The first floor will feature a large lobby, while floors 2-10 will contain offices and floors 11-27 will be taken up by the St. Regis. Under the current plan, the hotel would have roughly 170 rooms of at least 45 square metres each.


Movenpick To Develop Sentosa Resort Return to Headlines

Movenpick Hotels & Resorts has just signed a management agreement with Maxz Universal Development Group for a new resort development on Sentosa Island, Singapore. The project, which is expected to be completed by 2008, consists of an existing historical building built in colonial style around 1940, which will be completely restored and will retain its fa�ade. A new extension comprising essentially rooms with sea view will be added to the hotel. The Movenpick Treasure Resort Sentosa will be located on a gentle slope next to the Merlion landmark and will offer 186 rooms and suites. The food and beverage options will include a Movenpick Restaurant, a speciality restaurant and a bar. There are also plans to create a luxury spa and leisure area as well as modern conference and banqueting facilities.


Outrigger Announces New Project In The Republic of Palau Return to Headlines
Outrigger Enterprises Group (OEG) has announced it has entered into an agreement with Micronesia Investment and Development Corporation (MIDCORP) and Agora Development Group (ADG) to manage a proposed US$40 million luxury resort to be built on the island of Koror in the Republic of Palau. Located on a beachfront site near Echang village, Outrigger Palau Resort, Spa and Hotel will consist of 100 luxury hotel rooms, 10 over-water bungalows, 50 villas/condominiums, several food and beverage outlets, retail shops, spa and function space when it is completed in late 2009. Previous collaborations between OEG, MIDCORP and ADG include the former Outrigger Palasia Hotel Palau.

Shangri-La Opens In Guangzhou Return to Headlines
Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou, has soft-opened in the capital city of Guangdong province in February 2007. Located adjacent to the Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Centre and 30 minutes drive from the Guangzhou Bai Yun International Airport, the hotel offers an excellent view of the Pearl River. Upon opening of the complete hotel facilities on 26 March 2007, the Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou - the group�s 50th property � will feature a total of over 730 rooms, suites and serviced apartments, 11 function and breakout rooms, two ballrooms, the first hotel auditorium in Guangzhou, six restaurants and a Shangri-La�s signature spa.
