Four Seasons Hotel Sydney Sold Return to Headlines

Sydney’s Four Seasons Hotel has been sold to Eureka Funds Management for US$168 million. The property, previously the Regent Hotel, was sold by Chicago-based Walton Street Capital and Four Seasons Hotels, ending more than a year of negotiations over the asset. Eureka has been highly acquisitive in the hotel sector, last year paying US$291 million for InterContinental's nine hotels in Australia and New Zealand. The Four Seasons Hotel was put on the market in July 2005 and a consortium involving Thakral Holdings and Singapore's GIC Real Estate undertook exclusive due diligence on the asset.


Home Inn Hotels Looks To Nasdaq For US$80 Million Return to Headlines

Home Inn Hotels & Management, China's second-largest budget hotel chain, plans to raise up to US$80 million in an initial public offering in the United States, the company said yesterday. About US$45 million of the money raised will be used to expand the hotel chain and existing properties while US$7.5 million will be used to repay debts. Home Inn has 82 hotels in 26 cities in the mainland with a further 57 under development which will expand its reach to 40 cities. The company said it has been profitable since 2003 and that net income grew from US$190,000 in 2003 to US$2.6 million in 2005.


The Bulgari Resort, Bali Opens Return to Headlines

Bulgari Hotels & Resorts has opened the second property in their exclusive boutique hotel group. The Bulgari Resort is located on the cliff top site of the Pura Luhur Uluwatu Temple, on the island's far south-western tip. The Jimbaran Bay and the international airport lie approximately 20 kilometres north. Located at more than 150 metres above the seashore, the resort offers unrivalled views across the Indian Ocean. The resort comprises 59 ocean-view villas, including 3 two-bedroom villas and the 1,300-square metre Bulgari Villa designed by architects Antonio Citterio and Partners. All accommodations offer a plunge pool and patio with secluded tropical garden, high technology features and an extensive range of amenities.


Frasers Hospitality Seals Agreement And Secures Foray Into Shanghai Return to Headlines

Myanmar Expects One Million Tourist Arrivals In Tour Season Return to Headlines
Myanmar is expecting one million tourist arrivals in the tour season of 2006-07 which began in October and continues until May 2007, according to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. The latest figures released by the ministry show that foreign individual travellers visiting Myanmar account for 64 percent, while package travellers 22 percent and the rest go to those taking one-day trip on business. According to the statistics, tourist arrivals in Myanmar have increased annually in the past five years with 660,206 in the fiscal year of 2005-06 which ended in March, up from 656,000 in 2004-05, 590,000 in 2003-04 and about 470,000 in 2002-03 and 2001- 02 respectively. Of the tourists travelling to Myanmar in 2005-06, cross-border travellers accounted for the majority with 427,980, while 227,300 entered through Yangon check point and 4,918 through Mandalay and Bagan's. The fiscal year's tourist arrivals have hit a record high in the past five years, registering an earning through tourism during the year at over US$150 million, up from only US$17 million dollars in 2005-06.

Construction Begins On Western Sydney's First 5-Star Hotel Return to Headlines
Construction has commenced on the new $65 million five-star Sofitel at Sydney Olympic Park following the official ground-breaking ceremony for the hotel by the acting Premier of NSW and Minister for Transport, Hon. John Watkins. The Accor managed five-star Sofitel is located on Olympic Boulevard opposite the existing Novotel and Ibis hotels, which are also managed by Accor and the two developments will be linked by a two-storey common underground car park, which will bridge Herb Elliott Avenue. The 20 storey Sofitel will offer 212 deluxe rooms and suites, a signature restaurant, bar and conference facilities and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2008. In addition, a $19 million two-star Formule 1 hotel due for completion in the first quarter of 2008, will also be built at the Olympic precinct. The new Sofitel and Formule 1 hotels will bring the total number of hotel rooms at Sydney Olympic Park to approximately 700.
