The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations (FHRAI) - Indian Hotel Industry Survey is an annual publication, and is India's most comprehensive and, indeed, most authoritative report on operating and financial data for the hotel industry. The report's proprietary rights belong to the FHRAI. According to our understanding with FHRAI, HVS International is responsible for the analysis of relevant industry data (provided by FHRAI) and the preparation and publishing of the report.

Abacus Adds Second Cairns Hotel to its Holdings Return to Headlines

The bullish Abacus Property Group has bought the Tradewinds Esplanade hotel in Cairns for US$31 million. The purchase of the 245-room complex comes as Abacus is readying to launch a specialist tourism vehicle in the second half of 2006. The four-star Tradewinds Esplanade hotel is being sold by NQ Resorts, which is part of Japan's Shipfield Group, in a deal due to be finalised by February 2006.


Malaysia Launches Visit Malaysia Year 2007 Return to Headlines
Aiming to attract 20 million tourists, Malaysia unveiled its 2007 campaign. With the tagline "Malaysia Welcomes the World," the country's New Year celebrations and revelry coincided with the official launch of the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 campaign. The country's tourism ministry is targeting 200,000 tourists from West Asia, northern Africa and Iran this year. It will be drawing up programs to enable airlines from West Africa and Northern Africa to lease planes for flights to coincide with Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

Park Plaza Beijing Wangfujing Opening in China Return to Headlines
Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts announced the soft opening of its first hotel in China, the Park Plaza Beijing Wangfujing. Located in Beijing's Wangfujing commercial and shopping district, which is just minutes from some of the world's most popular tourist attractions including The Forbidden City, The Imperial Place and Tian'anmen Square, will be managed by Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific. Featuring 216 rooms, including 16 suites, all guest rooms will offer views of the Beijing skyline.

ITC Plans to Add 9 Hotels for India Tourism Return to Headlines
ITC, India's second-largest chain, plans to add at least nine properties to take a bigger share of one of the world's fastest-growing tourism markets. ITC will build hotels in Chennai, Bangalore, Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Chandigarh, and it may build one in Goa and some state capitals as demand exceeds supply. ITC may also consider hotels in London and Singapore. Reports have indicated that India's luxury hotels have seen a surge in occupancy, with demand expected to grow nine percent on average for the next five years and average room rates to gain 14 percent on average in the next two years.
