InterContinental Hotels Group to mange a Concorde Hotel in Singapore Return to Headlines
InterContinental Hotels Group signed an agreement with Avant Hotels (Singapore) Pte Ltd to manage the Concorde Hotel in Singapore under its Holiday Inn brand. Following a refurbishment, the hotel will be rebranded Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore in January 2005. This is the second partnership between InterContinental Hotels Group and Avant Hotels with the first partnership being the Crowne Plaza Perth, Australia. Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore is located at the crossroads of Havelock Road and Zion Road, next to Great World City Shopping Centre. The 27-storey hotel has 515 guest rooms and suites and two executive floors as well as three food & beverage outlets.

Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts’ expansion plan Return to Headlines
According to the Bangkok Post, Banyan Tree Hotels and Resort Pte, the Singapore-based hotel management and investment group, is set to expand throughout the world with at least nine properties to be opened over the next two years. The company has plans to develop two hotels in Dubai, one in Greece, one in Morocco, two in Mexico and two in China. The size of each of the new properties will be between 50 and 100 villas. Also in the pipeline for the company is a new property in Chiang Mai, expected to open within three years, a hotel in Bangkok and one in Phuket.

World’s #1 Golfer to Design Resort Golf Course in Fiji Return to Headlines
The world’s no. 1 ranked golfer, Vijay Singh, announced that his golf course design company has been hired to design a spectacular new golf course at Natadola Marine Resort in his home country of Fiji. The design agreement was formalized between Natadola Land Holdings (NLH), the owner of the project, Asia Pacific Resort International Limited (APRIL) the project developer, and Singh. Natadola Marine Resort is a 580 hectare (1,450 acre) integrated resort golf development on the white sand beaches of the Coral Coast, located on Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu, 45 minutes from Nadi International Airport. The project includes an 18-hole Vijay Singh-designed golf course, exclusive golf and ocean villas and 5-star resort hotels that will be announced shortly. The construction of the golf course and the first hotel is expected to commence in March, 2005.

Accor unfolds three hotels in Bali Return to Headlines
Accor will launch three hotels in Bali under its Sofitel, Mercure and Ibis brand. The Mercure Resort Sanur and the Sofitel Seminyak opened earlier this month whist the Ibis Legian will open early next year. The 184-room Mercure Resort Sanur was officially launched on 1 November and is located on the Sanur beachfront. The 137-room Sofitel Seminyak, located on Semminyak beach, also opened this month upon completion of a refurbishment of the former Royal Seminyak hotel. The Ibis Legian Bali is located between the Kuta and Seminyak shopping and entertainment areas. The hotel is currently undergoing a major renovation that includes 33 additional rooms, a full upgrade of all existing rooms, a new exterior design with Balinese influences and a new pool area.

Pavilions to launch hotel in Phuket Return to Headlines
Pavilions is set to launch its flagship property in Phuket, Thailand in June 2005 located close to Bang Tao and Layan Beaches. The all pool-villa hotel will comprise the 21 Modern-Asia styled one bedroom pavilions and 9 three bedroom villas. Pavilions is a boutique hotel and property development group based in Hong Kong. The group operates Bali Pavilions in Sanur and has plans to open further resorts in Krabi and Koh Samui, Thailand.

Starwood adds one on Hainan Island Return to Headlines
Starwood has signed an agreement with Hainan Hua Neng Hai Bin Industrial Development Co. Ltd to manage a hotel in Haikou, Hainan Island. This newly built 330-room Sheraton Haikou Resort is scheduled to open in the later half of 2005. The Sheraton Haikou Resort will feature 330 rooms and over 13,000 square feet of meeting and function space.
