Starwood H&R launches W brand in China Return to Headlines
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. is set to launch a W Hotel in Hong Kong early 2008. The 383-room W Hong Kong will be developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties. The hotel will be located on the West Kowloon Waterfront, next to Hong Kong’s future cultural and Entertainment district. In addition, Starwood has also signed an agreement with Sun Hung Kai to develop another W Hotel in the financial district of Pudong in Shanghai, China.

The Ascott Group adds one in Singapore Return to Headlines
The Ascott Group, the serviced residence arm of CapitaLand, announced the opening of a serviced apartment in Singapore under its Somerset brand. The Somerset Bencolen, located closed to City Hall, comprises 107 units. Ascott’s other residences in Singapore include The Ascott Singapore; Somerset Grand Cairnhill, Somerset Compass, Somerset Orchard and Somerset Liang Court.

Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels interim results for 1H04 Return to Headlines
The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels Limited, owner of The Peninsula Hotels, reported turnover for the first half of the year was HK$1,427 million, an increase of 31% compared to the previous corresponding period. The operating profit of the group rose by 118% to HK$367 million. It should be noted that the base years was low due to the impact of SARS on hotel revenues. Furthermore, the company highlighted projects in the pipeline including, the Peninsula Tokyo with ground-breaking planned for last quarter 2004; negotiations for potential Peninsula hotel in Shanghai with a project agreement entered into in May 2004 to acquire the land use rights for the designated site; renovations of The Repulse Bay apartments; Spa planned for The Peninsula Bangkok and plans for redevelopment of The Peak Tower.

New World Saigon Hotel holds positive outlook for 2004 Return to Headlines
Vietnam-based New World Saigon Hotel expects US$23 million in revenue this year, an increase of 15% from 2003. The hotel has received 80,000 guests so far this year, with an occupation rate approaching 69% of its 560 rooms, resulting in $10 million in revenue, an increase of 12% over the same period last year. New World Saigon is a joint venture between the Saigontourist Holdings Company and the Hong Kong's New World Hotel Holdings Ltd Company.

Super 8 to open five hotels in China Return to Headlines
According to the Beijing Business Today, US budget hotel chain Super 8 Motels Inc plans to add five hotels to its portfolio in China by this year. Super 8 opened its flagship hotel in Beijing in June and has scheduled to open a second one in Dalian in September.

Best Western adds one in Australia Return to Headlines
Best Western has added a new property to its portfolio in Australia. The Best Western Coastview Motor Inn at Port Noarlunga, comprises 15 studio suites containing ensuites and kitchens as well as conference and meeting facilities.
