Ascott enhances presence in Japan Return to Headlines
The Ascott Group has increased its investment in Japan through acquiring an additional 11% interest in Ascott International Management (Japan), a joint-venture with Mitsubishi Estate Company, for JPY 5.5 million. This acquisition has increased Ascott’s stake in the management company from 49% to 60%. The group has also invested JPY 500 million to take a 40 % interest in Somerset Roppongi, a 64-unit serviced residence in Tokyo. Besides Somerset Roppongi, Ascott also manages the 79-unit Somerset Azabu East serviced residence and 193 corporate leasing apartments in Tokyo.

Starwood H&R to add one hotel in Thailand Return to Headlines
Starwood Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with Grande Asset Development Public Company Limited to manage a hotel in Phuket, Thailand under its Four Points brand. The Four Points by Sheraton, located within Jungceylon Centre in Patong, is scheduled to open in July 2005. The resort will comprise 215 rooms, 3 dining outlets, sports and recreational facilities as well as 150 square metres of meeting and function space.

Regent Jakarta re-branded Four Seasons Hotel Return to Headlines
The Regent Jakarta has been renamed Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta. The hotel has just completed an extensive refurbishment programme. The renovation has included the ballroom, four function rooms and a stunning new spa. Elsewhere in the region, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is scheduled to open its first resort in Langkawi Malaysia in early 2005 and the Four Seasons Hotels Hong Kong in mid-2005.

Traders Hotel Dubai opens Return to Headlines
Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts announced the opening of the Traders Hotel in Dubai. The group signed an agreement with Oman-based Zubair Corporation to manage the hotel. Located in Deira, the hotel comprises 250 rooms and recreation, meeting and conference facilities.

Revised News: Shangri-La to add one in Australia Return to Headlines
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts signed an agreement with the Australian-based Huntercorp Pacific to operate a five-star hotel in Cairns, Australia in August. The 256-room hotel, adjoining to the Pier Shopping Centre, will undergo A$25m renovation, including an additional of 36 Horizon Club rooms and a new themed restaurant with open kitchens.
