Carlson, a global hospitality and travel company, and The Rezidor Hotel Group, a hotel company, have announced that they have established the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. While the legal status and ownership structure of Carlson and Rezidor remain the same, the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group will pursue the global alignment and management of its brands, the ambitious development of its revenue generation engines, global purchasing opportunities, and people development on a global basis, according to the company's release. Commercial activities will be conducted under the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group name, irrespective of geographies. The portfolio of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group includes more than 1,300 hotels, with a global footprint spanning 80 countries. The goal of this development is to generate more attractive financial returns for the owners and greater value for all shareholders, to be perceived by business partners around the world as one global hotel company, to offer more compelling and consistent value propositions to the guests, and to offer global career and development opportunities to the staff, according to Kurt Ritter, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rezidor. |

The Hong Kong Tourism Board has confirmed that visitor arrivals to Hong Kong reached an all-time high in 2011 of 41,921,310, representing an increase of 16.4% year-on-year. Among all markets, mainland China registered the most prominent growth in overnight arrivals at 16.5%, while Taiwan also recorded a 7.5% increase. Overnight visitor arrivals rose 11.1% to 22.32 million or 53.2% of total visitor arrivals to Hong Kong. Total expenditure associated with inbound tourism for 2011 is expected to exceed HK$253 billion, up 20.5% over 2010. Meanwhile, per capita spending is expected to rise for both overnight visitors and same-day visitors by 9% to HK$7,333 and 4% to HK$1,920, respectively. |

Promising to bring Thai hospitality to the Maldives, the new Dusit Thani Maldives resort is now confirmed to open on 6 February. This will be the first foray into the Maldives by Dusit International. The 100-villa resort features Dusit's signature Devarana Spa, elevated above a grove of coconut palm trees. The resort will include Beach Villas, offering 141 square metres of comfortable living space; Lagoon Villas with a private deck area and plunge pool, offering a combination of beach and lagoon space; 184-square-metre Ocean Villas featuring private pools and salas; and the most prestigious accommodations, the premium, two-bedroom Ocean Pavilions and Beach Residences, featuring large swimming pools and indoor and outdoor dining areas. The centrepiece of the resort is the expansive infinity swimming pool - the largest in the Maldives - at a full 750 square metres designed around an ancient banyan tree.

Vietnam-listed Ocean Hospitality & Services Joint Stock Co is looking at listing on the Singapore Stock Exchange. Ocean Hospitality is a member of the Ocean Group which has interests in real estate, finance, securities trading and the media. Ocean Group is listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. The group is planning to operate a hotel in Singapore, and is considering a major five-star hotel there. Ocean Hospitality has indicated that they are in talks with two parties in Singapore about purchasing an existing hotel. The company currently operates a total of five hotels in Vietnam and is targeting to open 20 hotels by 2015. Its hotels are under two brands - Sunrise and StarCity.
