Sri Lanka Expects to Increase Its Tourist Arrival By 22% By Year End Return to Headlines

Tourist arrivals to Sri-lanka have grown faster than expected and the country now believes it will certainly exceed its original target of attracting 750,000 tourist in 2011. Lanka Business Online quoted Nalaka Godahewa, Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, as saying that the annual target has now been raised to 800,000 visitors by year end, up 22% from 2010. From January to September 2011 total arrivals rose 34.3% to 598,000 visitors.

 
The Peninsula Hotel Plans For A Renovation Of Its Legendary Hong Kong Hotel Return to Headlines

The Peninsula Hotel released plans for a move into Europe and a renovation of its legendary Hong Kong hotel. Beginning in January, the company will launch renovations on the 1994 constructed tower of its Hong Kong property, leaving the hotel operating only 150 rooms in the second tower for up to 8 months. Following the completion of the first tower in September next year, the hotel will launch the same renovations on the second tower with completion expected in early 2013. As for Europe, the 1908 Majestic Hotel in Paris, France will be transformed into a Peninsula hotel with completion expected in spring 2013.

 
Ascott Announces To Manage Two More Properties In China Return to Headlines

Ascott announced contracts signed to manage two properties in Foshan and Hong Kong SAR, further strengthening their position as one of the largest international serviced residence owner-operators in China with over 7,000 apartment units in 40 properties across 17 cities. The 186 unit premier Ascott M-City Foshan is Ascott's first serviced residence in Foshan, slated to open in 2016. The 71 unit Somerset Victoria Park Hongkong will be Ascott's second serviced residence in Hong Kong when it opens in 2013. Ascott currently owns and operates Citadines Ashley Hongkong which is located in the Tsim Sha Tsui district.

 
Jetstar To Launch Beijing Flight Return to Headlines
Jetstar has launched its first to Beijing on 24th November. The low-cost carrier's new daily Melbourne-Singapore-Beijing services took off on Thursday, with Beijing becoming Jetstar's 10th destination in China. The route will be operated using a wide-body Airbus A330, Configured to carry 3303 passengers in two classes. The officials from Jetstar expected people living in Australia will capitalize on the low fares to visit friends and family in China more often.
 
Conrad Debuts in Koh Samui Return to Headlines
Hilton Worldwide and Hillcrest Resorts Co Ltd held the official grand opening of the Conrad Koh Samui. The resort first opened its doors on September 1st following 5 years of planning and construction by developer Hillcrest. The resort features 98 free standing villas with private plunge pools and sundecks, comprised of 65 one bedroom villas, 32 two bedroom and three bedroom Residences and a Royal Villa.
