The Westin to open in Singapore in November Return to Headlines
Starwood Hotels & Resorts is bringing its Westin brand back to Singapore in November 2013, after an absence of more than ten years. The hotel will occupy Level 32 to 46 of the new Asia Square Tower Two development, and will feature 305 guestrooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Marina Bay and the city. Besides F&B outlets, other facilities include a spa, a fitness centre and an outdoor infinity-edged pool. The hotel will also cater to the MICE market, offering 10 individual meeting rooms that cover more than 1,350 square metres of floor space.

South Korea Incheon International Airport breaks ground for second passenger terminal Return to Headlines

South Korea broke ground for Incheon International Airport's second passenger terminal as part of its expansion plans to meet increasing demand. This is part of the third phase of the construction project budgeted to cost KRW 4.8 million, of which KRW 2.2 million will go towards constructing the second terminal. The additional terminal will increase passenger handling capacity from 44 million to 62 million passengers annually and is set to be completed in 2017, ahead of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games where passenger arrivals are expected to surge significantly.

 
AirAsia X launches direct flights to Maldives and Colombo Return to Headlines

Starting 28 September 2013, AirAsia X will start offering 4 return flight services per week to Colombo in Sri Lanka and Malé in the Maldives. Flights will depart from Kuala Lumpur, stopover at both Colombo and Malé, before returning to Kuala Lumpur on the same day.

 
Jetstar increases presence in Indonesia, Cambodia and China Return to Headlines

With the addition of two A320s to its fleet, Jetstar will increase its network and capacity to popular destinations in Indonesia, Cambodia and China, starting 27 September 2013. Flight frequencies from Singapore to Indonesia will increase with an additional two flights a week to Bali, and an additional four flights a week to both Medan and Jakarta respectively. Jetstar will also launch three weekly direct flights to Phnom Penh, and add one weekly flight to Hangzhou and Shantou respectively. This expansion in its Southeast Asian network and frequencies will see Jetstar carry more than 4 million passengers before the end of 2013.

 
Thai Airways subsidiary Thai Smile to add more international destinations Return to Headlines

Thai Airways subsidiary Thai Smile will offer four new routes to China, Laos and Japan this winter season, as they double their fleet in the next six months. From 27 October, Thai Smile will operate three weekly flights from Bangkok to Changsha and Chongqing in China, with the latter increasing to five times weekly from mid-January. Starting 16 November, it will also offer daily flights on a new route from Bangkok to Luang Pabang, Laos, competing with Bangkok Airways and Laos Airlines. A new Bangkok-Sendai route will also commence on 3 December, offering three weekly flights to Japan. This expansion in Thai Smile's network confirms the repositioning of the carrier as a complementary airline to Thai Airways. Thai Smile will continue to allocate almost 80% of its capacity to the domestic market.

 
Royal Cliff Hotels Group launches new QR code express check-in in Thailand Return to Headlines

From 1 October 2013, guests at Royal Cliff hotels will be able to check-in by scanning a personalised Quick Response (QR) code provided during their reservation. The QR code express check-in is believed to be the first of its kind in Thailand and will reduce the waiting time and improve the efficiency of the check-in process. The group hopes that this innovation will enhance the customer experience, as guests become more tech savvy.
