Singapore F1 Grand Prix boosts tourism Return to Headlines
The Singapore Formula One (F1) Grand Prix is set for a bumper harvest. Flight bookings into Singapore increased 12.6% from 2012, following a 1.9% dip from 2011. In particular, there was a 29% surge in tourist arrivals 3 days before the actual start of the qualifying race, suggesting that tourists are arriving earlier and spending more time in Singapore beyond the F1 weekend. Hotels also reported higher occupancy rates in spite of higher room prices. This increased interest and demand will likely translate into greater earnings, providing a boost to the tourism and hospitality sector.
