Tokyo 2020 Olympics to boost hotel market Return to Headlines
Tokyo has been nominated as the host city for the Summer Olympic Games in 2020. The total economic benefits from hosting the Games are estimated to be worth around US$30 billion. In particular, the hotel market is expected to be boosted by the projected influx of over 8 million visitors during the event.

Carlson Rezidor expands Asia-Pacific portfolio Return to Headlines

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group is expanding its Asia-Pacific portfolio with 7 new hotel signings in 2Q2013, including a management agreement that represents the group's first venture into the Indonesian market. Meanwhile, the group continues to grow its presence in China with 2 proposed openings in Shanghai in 3Q2013. In addition, the group will also reinforce its leadership position in India by adding 4 new properties by 3Q2016.

 
Minor Hotel Group opens third Avani in Vietnam Return to Headlines

Minor Hotel Group has rebranded the Life Wellness Resort Quy Nhon as the third resort under its Avani brand, and the first outside of Sri Lanka. The group has recently announced plans to build its footprint within Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Additional properties are expected to join its portfolio in Thailand, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

 
Marco Polo Hotels Group to open third property in the Philippines Return to Headlines

Marco Polo Hotels Group is opening the 316-room Marco Polo Ortigas in Manila in 1Q2014. The property is located at the city's commercial business hub and will be positioned as a five-star business hotel. Marco Polo Ortigas is the third addition to the group's portfolio in the Philippines, which includes 2 other hotels in Cebu and Davao.

 
Tigerair launches four new destinations from Singapore Return to Headlines

Low-cost carrier Tigerair continues its expansion by adding 4 new destination routes to its network. Starting next month, Tigerair will operate 3 flights every fortnight to Lijiang in China (from 29 October), 4 flights weekly to Chiang Mai in Thailand (from 2 November) and Langkawi in Malaysia (from 8 November), and 3 flights weekly to Lombok in Indonesia (from 22 November).

 
Jetstar unveils a new link to Phuket from Australia Return to Headlines

In response to the high demand of flights to Phuket via Sydney or Singapore, Jetstar will operate 2 direct flights weekly from Melbourne to Phuket from 14 December 2013, with the frequency increasing to 3 flights weekly from March 2014.

 
Princess Cruises enters Indonesian cruise market Return to Headlines

Princess Cruises, a cruise line brand under Carnival Corporation, will be sailing to Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region for a new season of cruise trips. The Sapphire Princess, which has a capacity of approximately 2,670 passengers, is due to be deployed to the region for a four-month season from November 2014 to February 2015. The vessel will call at 7 countries and 16 ports in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Brunei. Approximately 40,000 passengers are expected to travel with the cruise line during its first season.
