Record highs for Singapore’s tourism sector in 2017

According to the Singapore Tourism Board’s (STB) tourism sector performance released on 12 February, Singapore hit record highs in both visitor arrivals and tourism receipts in 2017. International visitor arrivals increased by 6.2% to reach 17.4 million visitors, with 13 of the top 15 source markets showing growth. Notable uplifts were observed in Indian and Chinese visitors, recording a year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of 16% and 13%, respectively. As a result, for the first time, China overtook Indonesia as the top source market, accounting for 16.6% of total visitors. Chinese visitors also remained the top spenders in Singapore for the third consecutive year, growing strongly at 10% from 2016. Overall, tourism receipts also hiked by 3.9% to S$26.8 billion, largely due to the robust growth in tourism receipts across most of the top ten source markets. Going forward, STB forecasts international visitor arrivals to be in the range of 17.6 to 18.1 million and tourism receipts to be in the range of S$27.1 to S$27.6 billion in 2018.
