Whitbread to Exit Premier Inn Business in India and South East Asia

Whitbread PLC announced that it will exit its Premier Inn business, currently accounting for 785 rooms, in India and Southeast Asia. The company is planning a phased withdrawal from its three existing hotels in India, two in Indonesia and a hotel site in Thailand. The company will instead focus on expanding its Premier Inn portfolio in Germany and the Middle East. This move will be the first major change of strategy under Whitbread’s new Chief Executive Officer, Alison Brittain. Whitbread, which also owns the Costa Coffee chain, aims to reach 85,000 Premier Inn rooms in the United Kingdom by 2020, from its current 64,920 rooms.

Second Four Points by Sheraton Opens in Bali

After Four Points by Sheraton Kuta, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide continues its expansion in Indonesia with the opening of the Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Seminyak. Situated strategically in the urban village of Petitenget, the hotel is a 10 minutes’ drive from central Seminyak and 15 minutes from the Ngurah Rai International Airport. Located amidst rice fields, the resort exudes a casual and relaxing ambience. Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Seminyak, features 93 rooms and 28 suites, and offers two meeting rooms totaling 105 square meters in size. There are three dining venues including an all-day dining restaurant, a poolside bar and a rooftop restaurant. Other amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, an Aswangga Wellness Spa and a fitness center, along with complimentary shuttle service to local attractions.

Hotel JAL City Haneda Tokyo West Wing to Open in September

ORIX Real Estate Corporation and Okura Nikko Hotel Management Co. Ltd., operator of the Hotel JAL City brand, have jointly announced the opening of the Hotel JAL City Haneda Tokyo West Wing in September 2016. To be the brand’s second hotel near Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport, this eight-floor, 103-room facility will be located just 70 meters away from the existing Hotel JAL City Haneda Tokyo. The property will also offer a lounge for breakfast and drinks, and regular airport shuttle services. Being the busiest airport in Japan and one of the busiest in the world, the Haneda International Airport is increasingly gaining popularity among international travelers due to its extremely convenient location. According to the Japan National Tourism Organization, Japan received nearly 21.4 million international travelers for the fiscal year ended March 2016, and the Japanese government hopes to welcome 40 million overseas visitors in the year 2020.
