Project

The Lancaster County Convention Bureau, which markets the Pennsylvania Dutch Country region, needed help publicizing various special events and promotions. In 2003-2004, the Convention and Visitors Bureau wanted publicity/editorial coverage in the New York area - in travel sections and other appropriate sections of daily and regional newspapers and national magazines. In 2005, the target market was press in Philadelphia, Southern New Jersey, Baltimore and Washington, DC. In 2006, the media outreach was to food editors and producers.

The HVS Assignment
HVS Sales & Marketing Services arranged appointments with consumer and travel-related media in the above mentioned markets for the Convention Bureau representatives who visited from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. HVS arranged individual appointments with staff travel writers of such premier publications as Travel & Leisure, the New York Daily News, Good Housekeeping and Conde Nast Traveler. HVS also organized luncheons and dinners with prolific travel journalists, some of whom are active members of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW).

Results
When HVS was engaged by the Bureau in 2002, we were able to arrange some 40 meetings with individual writers. The resulting press that these meetings generated encouraged the Bureau to utilize HVS again each year through 2006.
