Convention, Sports & Entertainment Facilities Consulting - Success Stories
Santa Fe Civic Center
After two decades of plans and studies, Santa Fe has begun development of a new downtown convention and civic center. Since 1979 the "City Different" has utilized a converted high school gymnasium - the Sweeney Center - as the capitol city's primary convention facility. During the past three years HVS Convention, Sports & Entertainment Facilities Consulting has helped to move Santa Fe's project from a concept to reality by providing a thorough feasibility study, detailed facility program recommendations, and a realistic approach to financing the project. In March 2006 the City demolished the Sweeney Center to make way for the new, larger convention and civic center and an underground parking structure. The new Santa Fe Convention & Civic Center is scheduled to open by the end of 2007. It will feature a 20,000 square foot multi-purpose exhibit hall and substantially more meeting, kitchen, and lobby space than the old center. The total gross square footage of the new center will be approximately 72,500 square feet compared to 45,200 square feet at the old center. The underground parking structure will include 512 spaces. The total development cost for the project is estimated to be $55 million.
