Queens, New York Conference/Exhibition Center and Hotel Feasibility Study
The
Chamber of Commerce of the Borough of Queens hired HVS to conduct
a market and feasibility analysis of potential conference/exhibition
center and hotel development in the Borough. HVS analyzed the overall
New York City market and the Borough of Queens specifically and developed
recommended facility program and financial operating estimates for
two concepts that warrant further development consideration in the
Borough. The first concept is an exhibition center that would have
125,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 30,000 square foot ballroom,
and 15,000 square feet of meeting space in its first phase. A 250-room
hotel could be developed adjacent to this center. This facility would
primarily host tradeshows, business-to-business events, consumer shows,
and various local civic functions. A detailed site analysis resulted
in a recommendation that the facility be developed in the Willets
Point area of Queens. The second concept was a 400-room hotel conference
center with 29,850 square feet of function space. This facility would
serve conferences, smaller conventions, and various local civic and
social events. The site analysis for this concept resulted in a recommendation
that Long Island City would be the best location for this potential
development. The Client has approved recommendations and is pursuing
development options; the HVS study has been included in the Citys
RFP for potential developers in Willets Point.
