Consulting & Valuation - Vancouver - Overview
The Vancouver office of HVS International was opened by Betsy MacDonald, MAI, AACI, RIBC in 1993, and was the firm’s first Canadian office. Since opening in Canada, we have appraised hotels in every province of the country, including the Northwest Territories, the Yukon and Nunavut. A distinct advantage of the Canadian practice is that we have the MAI (Member of the United States Appraisal Institute) and the AACI (Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute) designations, we understand the Uniform Standards of each country, and our appraisals are accepted on both sides of the border.
In addition to hotel appraisals, which we have been told on numerous occasions are the best in this country, we provide comprehensive feasibility studies, market demand studies, occupancy and rate letters, site analysis, and litigation support. We recently completed a portfolio analysis for one of the most prominent and prestigious hotel chains in the country.
The Canadian offices publish the Canadian Lodging Outlook monthly in conjunction with Smith Travel Research. This publication summarizes monthly hotel occupancies and average room rates for all of the major cities and the provinces in Canada. In addition, we publish the Canadian Weekly Lodging Outlook. This publication summarizes occupancy and average daily room rates for all of the major cities in Canada. This is the only publication of it’s kind in Canada. HVS International Canada also publishes Canadian hotel sales transactions on an annual basis.
All of our associates hold university degrees in hotel administration, and are taking further courses of study towards their AACI designation at the University of British Columbia. In fact, the University of British Columbia is responsible for all AACI education in Canada, and the ”Hotel Course” for the AACI’s was written by HVS managing directors Betsy MacDonald, MAI, AACI, RIBC, Suzanne Mellen, MAI, CRE, and Steve Rushmore, MAI, CRE, CHA.
