Mr. Rodney G. Clough, MAI
As Managing Director of HVS Dallas, Rod Clough, MAI oversees the activities of the HVS Dallas office. Rod is also a partner in the HVS Atlanta, Boston, Mexico City, and Washington, D.C. consulting and valuation offices. Rod has been working in the hospitality industry for over 20 years and has been appraising since 1995. Rod earned his MAI designation in 2002, the year he opened the HVS Dallas office. Rod has overseen some of the largest assignments undertaken by HVS, including the 2007 appraisal of Hilton Worldwide. He supervises a group of talented managers that allow his team to complete over 1,000 appraisals a year.
Rod is a Designated Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) and a state certified general appraiser. He and his staff maintain certifications in virtually every state. Rod is highly committed to ongoing education and supports continuing education and designations for his staff by funding Appraisal Institute education. Rod also established and oversees the operations of the firm’s Professional Development Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. Each year, the center hosts HVS staff from around the world for continuing education classes taught by Rod and select senior level staff on his team.
From 2005 through 2007, Rod redesigned the firm’s report completion process, bringing a heightened level of standardization and process efficiencies to the HVS methodology. He continues to lead internal teams and developers to keep the HVS product on the cutting edge of the industry. Clients praise Rod and his team for their timely, high-quality reports, which can be attributed in large part to the new report completion process Rod has designed.
Rod believes in operating the offices he helps to oversee in the most socially responsible, forward-thinking manner possible. In September of 2008, he took his offices carbon neutral after working diligently for years to reduce each location’s carbon footprint. Furthermore, all individuals on his team are committed to their communities through service and support; collectively, his team (50 individuals) has made significant contributions to a variety of local causes. Additionally, all groups participate in an annually nominated initiative, such as the MS Walk or the Race for the Cure.
In his spare time, Rod keeps busy raising his two girls, Becca and Rory, with frequent trips to the playground, the soccer field, Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, and creative time in the backyard when the weather is nice. Rod is a regular volunteer at the neighborhood school and also keeps active supporting other important causes in his hometown. When he can manage a break from work and parenthood, Rod likes to sit down at his piano. He has been playing for 30 years and harbors a particular love for the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique.
