Mr. John Scaggs

John Scaggs is the Managing Director of HVS Eco Services, an environmental sustainability consultancy focused on the hospitality industry. Based in Boulder, Colorado, a major center for innovative sustainability research, John and his team assist global hospitality clients with achieving sustainability goals by implementing solutions that improve energy efficiency and streamline internal processes. Clients appreciate Scaggs' highly pragmatic approach to sustainability.

Scaggs' operational experience is an asset to the service he provides his clients. John's operational hotel experience spans from the W Hotel in Times Square to a boutique hotel in Sicily. In the world of food and beverage, John has worked in such restaurants as Da Silvano (Manhattan), Top of the Hub (Boston) and The Castle at Tarrytown (Tarrytown, NY).

John has authored numerous articles on environmental sustainability and is a frequent panelist at industry conferences such as the NYU Hotel Investment Conference, Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS), The Lodging Conference, the China Hotel Investment Summit (CHIS), and the South American Hotel Investment Conference (SAHIC).

John earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College, where he majored in English, and a Master of Science degree in Hotel Investments from New York University. John has completed extensive training on green building practices with the U.S. Green Building Council and is a member of the Urban Land Institute. Fully engaged in the active Boulder lifestyle, John is an avid mountain biker, skier and tennis player. An adventurous traveler, John recently completed a 10,000-kilometer motorcycle journey around Australia.
