HVS India successfully completed its 9th annual Hotel Investment Conference – South Asia (HICSA) last week. With 540 delegates in attendance, the event witnessed a diverse presence of hoteliers, investors, bankers, developers, architects and designers from various parts of the globe. The conference had a great start with Manav Thadani speaking uncensored on the various issues plaguing the hotel industry in India and the common mistakes the different stakeholders make. It was one the most high profile HICSAs with the four stalwarts of the leading hospitality brands as panellists in the opening session on DAY 1 - Arne M Sorenson, President & CEO, Marriott International, Christopher J Nassetta, President & CEO, Hilton Worldwide, Frits van Paasschen, President & CEO, Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Mark S Hoplamazian, President & CEO, Hyatt Hotels Corporation. With Steve Rushmore as the moderator for this powerful panel, the session was a full-house as the delegates didn’t want to miss the chance of listening to the views, outlook and experiences of these global leaders. DAY 1 also had the Women in Hospitality session, which included a keynote address by Trudy Rautio, President & CEO, Carlson.
DAY 2 of HICSA commenced with the domestic and international brands fighting it out on who has a better hold over the Indian hospitality industry in India: Who’s the David and Who’s the Goliath?. Manav, as the moderator, left no stone unturned to get direct and candid responses from the panellists representing Taj, Lemon Tree and Oberoi (domestic brands), and IHG, Accor and Hyatt (international brands). The three batches of four concurrent sessions each followed, serving the interests of different stakeholders with subject matters ranging from Debt Funding, PE Investments, Management Contracts, Creating a New Brand, Design and Architecture to Budget Hotels, Hotel Construction, Spas and Lifestyle Hotels. The conference concluded with the exciting Hot Seat session that left the audience enjoying every moment of it.
