NEW TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF HVS ALUMNI! |

October 9, 2008 was Paul Soblik’s last day with HVS New York,
and he sent the following email to everyone at the firm:
“The past 26 months here at HVS were a great experience
for me, both professionally and personally. Therefore, I
would like to thank all of you for teaching me a lot,
sending me to numerous places in the country where I would
have otherwise never gone, and joining me on various
dinners, coffee runs, late nights out, etc.
I would especially like to thank Anne Lloyd-Jones for teaching
me a lot more than just being a (hopefully) good associate
and keeping me busy over the past two years, Matt Herzog for
solving I don’t know how many issues with my computer and
preventing me from just throwing the thing out of the
window, Aaron Gumpenberger(now with Gaylord Hotels) for
taking me on my very first training assignment and showing
me pretty much everything that it takes to get the
information I needed while traveling on all my
assignments….., and La Baik for helping out whenever help
was needed and for never being in a bad mood…….
Although I still need to realize that my time here is actually
over, I appreciate everyone’s support and shared experiences
a lot. As of January I will be going back to school in order
to do an MBA. If anyone feels the desire to contact me or
would like to visit me in Germany, please write to

Mrs. Ruth Clarke (nee Waite) is now pursuing a career in
speech and language therapy. She and her husband Simon live
in Reading, UK. |

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. has appointed
Karen Rubin SVP/Global Development-Feasibility and
Development Policy. She now works with Starwood's
divisional development, finance, legal, franchise
operations and global brand teams and reports to Simon
Turner, president/Global Development. Since joining
Starwood in 2000, Karen has held both divisional and
global leadership roles in feasibility. Most recently,
she supported Starwood's North American division with it
feasibility needs. Prior to joining Starwood, Karen
worked in a number of senior roles during her 18-year
tenure with HVS in New York. |

HVS New York Alum Linda Yang married Garrick Yau in
Tarrytown, NY on September 27, 2008. Many HVS alumni
were in attendance to help celebrate the big day,
including Yoo Mee Pak, Mark Owens, and Alison Tan, as
well as Petr Kulic and Lucienne Anhar who traveled all
the way from London and Bali. It was a perfect day and
the rain held out just long enough to get outdoor
photos. After the wedding, the happy couple left for a
two week honeymoon, spent at two of Lucienne's amazing
Indonesian resorts - Hotel Tugu Bali and her newest
resort, Hotel Tugu Lombok. They had a wonderful time and
praise Lucienne and her family for their luxury
accommodations and amazing hospitality. |

On November 28, 2008, Gisele Sarheim (HVS NY Alumni) and
his wife, Lara (currently HVS London), became the proud
parents of a baby boy, Phillip Magnus. |
